Niese throws bullpen, says he’s ready to come off DL

blank stare from Jon NieseMets’  Jon Niese threw a bullpen session on Friday afternoon at Petco Park in San Diego and then proclaimed that he will be ready to come off the DL when his turn in the rotation comes on Monday (ESPN, July 18).

Niese was put on the DL on July 6th with what was termed for the Mets as a left-shoulder strain. What prompted a trip to the DL was a drop in velocity for Niese, though he remained effective.  Niese has been the Mets’ top starter with a 5-4 record and team best 2.96 ERA.

The Mets are at the Seattle Mariners on Monday night.

Niese has 48 Wins for the Mets, and doesn't celebrate his 28th birthday until late October.  Most Regular Season Wins by a Met Pitcher Before his 28th Birthday:

1. Gooden 142

2. Seaver  116

3. Matlack 82

4. El Sid 78

5. Darling 68

6. Cone 53

7. Bobby Jones 51

8. Pelfrey 50

T9.  Koosman and Niese 48

Barring injury, the 6th spot on this list is within reach for Jon.
