Mets’ Jon Niese threw a bullpen session on Friday afternoon at Petco Park in San Diego and then proclaimed that he will be ready to come off the DL when his turn in the rotation comes on Monday (ESPN, July 18).
Niese was put on the DL on July 6th with what was termed for the Mets as a left-shoulder strain. What prompted a trip to the DL was a drop in velocity for Niese, though he remained effective. Niese has been the Mets’ top starter with a 5-4 record and team best 2.96 ERA.
The Mets are at the Seattle Mariners on Monday night.
