Jon Niese

Niese removed from game in first inning

Jon Niese was removed from Friday night’s start after taking a line drive off his back in the first inning.

However, X-rays were negative and Niese was diagnosed with a simple bruise.

He threw just 12 pitches and later told reporters he felt fine and would like to make two more starts before the All Star break.

“I didn’t want to be taken out,” Niese said. “I knew it was just a bruise. I wanted to stay in there.”

Niese to Collins "F%ck off,midget-I'm fine"

In all seriousness, happy to see Niese is ok after that shot off his back-could have been much worse, and he still made the play to boot...

He's one of our best assets and best pitchers,I don't think his name should be involved in ANY trade talks unless its a name like Stanton.

Glad to see some folks actually agreeing with my thoughts from last week. Noah is a prospect. Nothing else. Although the majority of triple A pitchers will have their ups and downs especially playing in Vegas there is no telling which direction Noah may end up. If the Cubs do talk with the Mets, perhaps the best deal would be prospect for prospect. Castro has been less of special and we have seen what he could do. If Noah ends up in Chicago I'd rather see him pitching there versus Citi Field. At least you know that many pitchers do not like the friendly winds of Wrigley Field. It would some how make the deal more honest looking if the player we get does not perform as well either.

Hmmm, so does this mean Niese IS being shopped?  I mean, you really can't trade damaged goods, right?  Yes, I understand Niese's injury history, yes I know the Mets history of screwing anything up that's medical in nature, but even for TC that was a bit OVER overprotective.  Seems Sandy (uhhh, and Terry) don't want to risk anything happening to one of their major trade pieces.

I wonder if Niese sees some innings in this series, considering he didn't really get a chance to pitch.

Now that the Cubs just acquired Addison Russell for Samardizja the first thing we should do is go to them and see what they would want for Baez or Castro. The Cubs now have Baez, Bryant, Castro, Alcantrara, and Russell who will all be ready for the major leagues next year. That's 5 guys for 3 infield positions. Something has to give. No team matches up with us better. The Cubs have no pitching at all now thanks to this trade. Gee, Montero, and another prospect for Castro or Russell or Baez. Do something that will FINALLY help this team Alderson

Why weren't the lineups posted today? I also see no posts on why David Wright isn't back. Glad I know what Ron Darling does in the morning.

Hate to jinx him, but Duda might put together a solid season. Just wish he could play LF.

Totally agree with taking him out. That was a line drive that hit him. I won't argue that one.

Oh no, negative x-ray and a "bruise" see you in 6-8 weeks.

Whiners night out. I see from your blogs that TC was responsible for Niese, who has a long history of injuries, for being hit in the back. Carry on.

Bad Luck + Inept Management + mediocre roster = Your New York Metropolitans

Its the Wilpons, Alderson, and Collins' fault!!! Had they signed Choo, he wouldn't have hit a lead-off hr, thus, that second ab would have had a totally different outcome.

Every one on this site is so negative you don't know what he told the trainers it is smart to be cautious

Fired Terry Collins!!! Niese was good to continue this game.

Do it!! Was thinking the same thing. This is the perfect opportunity for Sandy to get the bat we need. My preference would be russell. We may have to trade Thor to make it happen , which I would do for russell. Sandy stop watching the fireworks and call Epstein!!! LGM

And if he left him in to get injured further, how high would the limb be from which you'd hang Terry?

@Raymond Kim The Mets name has never been the NY Metropolitans. They are the METS. Their corporate nane is the New York Metropolitan Baseball Club. The team's name is NY METS.

@Raymond Kim that's like saying New York is in New York…tell us something that isn't painfully obvious

@ac0814 how much did Choo sign for? He's hitting 250…

you would have been killing them for paying Choo

you would have been killing them for paying ellisbury who's having an remarkably ordinary year

you would have been killing them for paying Drew who is hitting 125.

Fans are all back seat drivers and smarter than every GM, especially Sandy but really all of them

You could read his lips, he was saying I am alright. The trainer is part of this teams problems.

@thjopr6986 While I completely agree, how this comment comes after something completely unpreventable makes no sense what so ever.

@robzimm defnitely should have listened to his player who was saying I'm Fine - given him the benefit of the doubt.  He's done this a lot lately to Niese borders on disrespecting him as a player and man.

I do Syndergaard straight up for Russell in a heartbeat. Russells bat may take some time in the majors but he's a guaranteed gold glove shortstop.

@rico I wanted to point out the bad luck.  And how can you "whine" about "whiney guys"  Kind of a calling the kettle black thing .

@hankypanky thank you thank you…I accept the award on behalf of the whiney faux-met fan bitches del mundo.

Oh yeah I forgot the folks here, I mean the major whiners had Granderson as Bay 2.0 as well, and Colon as a big fat bust…..so sometimes fans have to exercise patience. If you can't take the heat or the losses walk away, turn the channel and go for a run or do something constructive.  Constant whining about EVERYTHING doesn't make you smart or prescient or snarky-cool.  Quite the opposite

Arnold Bernard

So true you all are so smart we are all fans and that's it you all come off as experts if that was true you would be either owning running or managing a major league team and none of us are

There isn't a pitcher alive who doesn't say "I'm alright." Herb Score said it when he was decked.

Mismanaged tonight - why'd Collins taken Niese out - wihtout allowing Niese to throw even one practice pitch. It's more than appropriate.

@Raymond Kim @rico yup i whine about whiners, which makes me better than them. Plus Ray it's not like we don't all share the same pain. Restating the obvious over and over and over ,…INFINITY is just annoying.
