Jon Niese 13 (Baron)

Niese on 15-day DL, Harvey to 60-day DL; Quintanilla makes team

Jon Niese was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, the Mets announced.

Niese is expected to make his season debut on April 6.

Matt Harvey was placed on the 60-day DL, the team said.

The team officially selected Omar Quintanilla’s contract, confirming that he has made the Opening Day roster.

They re-assigned Eric Campbell, Anthony Seratelli and Taylor Teagarden.

We know there are issues, but you don't go to the ballpark to boo your own team (Unless you're a Phillies fan).

Matthew,  How was Matsuzaka optioned to the minors when he was in camp on a minor league contract?  He was already IN the minors - just had an invitation to the ML camp.

Okay, so after we enjoy Opening Day etc., can I go back to being annoyed that the team didn't do enough in the off season?  Or, is this "whining," and I should just settle?

Has anyone else noticed that we're still real bad at SS?

Hey there's real baseball on!

@metsblog only the Mets would have 1 back up SS start a SS & another SS that should be out of the majors be the back up

still can't believe sandy and the mets have Tejada and Q back as their short stops, thats a pretty bad job of not fixing known issues plus the 1b battle of the titans we have going on. Still think Flores should have been named starter at SS.

Bunch of idiots on here. Let's fight about the 5th starter, the 25th player on the roster and Drew. By the way, 30 other teams haven't signed Drew either...

This time next year we'll have a top 5 rotation, hopefully a legitimate shortstop, and a real 90-win team. For now we can just cross our fingers. Nevertheless, LGM!

Ughh, as if Michigan getting knocked out of the NCAA tournament isn't depressing enough, it now forces me to focus on this rabble of garbage...

LGM ! LGM ! Everyone stop complaining every team is 0-0 as of now. Enjoy opening day

@doubleday  I think it's ok to boo serious under performers. I generally don't, but it doesn't really bother me when people do it.

@jdr9 youre one of the idiots who wants to settle for this mediocre roster, so of us are sick of losing!

@jdr9  Idiots still fighting over the 5th spot in here? AMAZING Mejia was good all spring! IDK whats the problem?

@jdr9  And your point is we should be talking about what?

@mets2891 I feel you.  Pretty good game by the wolverines.  Kentucky just happened to pick tonight to shoot 65% from 3 as opposed to their season average 32% and that proved to be the difference.  Overall a great season though. Go Blue!  Tough to watch the Mets after being into such a captivating NCAA tourney.  Maybe the Wilpons will be upset too, over the Michigan loss and get us a real SS or 1B.

@Dan Abel  I agree.  I will be the one yelling at Matt Williams about PED's tomorrow as I pray the mets don't strike out more than 19 times!

@Victor Triguero  Nah. Everyone starts with a clean slate on opening day. Save your booing for the other team.

@Victor Triguero  WHo goes to opening day to boo his own team?

Sorry Victor that's chumpy. Maybe tomorrow Tejada will begin a-new , play some top-notch ball, and then boo you.

Sometimes players and teams need positive reinforcement (Cheers) to pump them up, rather than boos to bum them out.

Game 1 and you want to boo your own guys?  I wish I could go to your job and boo you, brother

Wayno

I will boo tomorrow loudly for tejada, ey jr, ike or duda, collins and i will start a "sell the team wilpons" chant. As it is my right to do so after buying the tickets that are way over priced for a team at bottom of payroll.

@Eric Carlos Torres  I wouldn't boo Tejada... Never know what kind of year he could have, and has been at least decent in the past. Terry however, I'd boo out of town all day long.   Let Tejada do lousy for a couple weeks before the boo birds come out at least.

@Wayno the more you go to these games the less incentive to do something to actually improve the team. They don;t care if you boo as long as you pay.

@boodge106  I'm not condoning booing on opening day, but you can't blame the fan base for being a little bit frustrated....

Olerud42
Olerud42

@Wayno  I'm sure your booing will make the Wilpons sell the team immediately, as opposed to counting the money they earned from your ticket and the beer you buy and laughing themselves to the bank

@Wayno Went to 10 opening days in a row, last year broke my streak.  It is no big deal to miss unless it is for memories with your father.  If it isn't the case, don't put any money in the Wilpon's pockets at all and don't buy from Stubhub or the Mets.

Selig and his successor will have to do something if a NY MLB team is last in attendance.

Sounds like you are going to have a fantastic time. This is what's wrong with this "fan" base...

@Wayno Please, please, please go away.  Don't show up to opening day.  Get caught in traffic.  Missed the first inning.  I used to think the Mets had the best fans in the world.  Thanks for being another data point to prove me wrong.  Gross.

@ericloz cause me and my dad haven't missed opening day in 30 yrs. this team use to be fun and enjoyable, but completely embarrassing now. I'll will boo as loud as I can at these horrible players and I hope u hear me

@Wayno Why would you buy tickets "that are way over priced for a team at bottom of payroll" just to boo? Don't you have better things to spend your money on? Riverfront property in Chernobyl orDauphin County?

@DMMP  I wouldn't boo Terry. I don't think he's Tony La Russa or anything, but the guy hasn't had much to work with.

@boodge106  You definitely deserve to get booed if you throw fire crackers at the fans.  : )

boodge106
boodge106

Bay had a rough time with the Mets, but outside of off the field issues, I don't think that anyone "definitely" deserves to be booed. Through his struggles he was very professional about the whole thing. Booing a player who is not performing well is so tacky. If he is doing bad things for the team off the field that's different, although I still would say that person "definitely" deserves to be booed.

Nick Squatrito

@dannym28 @rico @Victor Triguero  I was there a few years ago when they booed Bay. Can't say that I felt bad for him either, he definitely deserved it. Unfortunately I won't be going to the game tomorrow but theres not a doubt in my mind Tejada, Duda, and Davis all get booed as their names get called
