MLB: Texas Rangers at New York Mets

Niese likely to return for Seattle series

Jon Niese threw a bullpen before Sunday’s game, which went fine, according to Terry Collins.

Niese is expected to return from the disabled list for the team’s second series post-All-Star break against the Seattle Mariners.

Niese was removed from his start on Friday, July 5 start after taking a line drive off his back in the first inning.

However, X-rays were negative and Niese was diagnosed with a simple bruise. He threw just 12 pitches and later told reporters he felt fine and would like to make two more starts before the All Star break.

“I didn’t want to be taken out,” Niese said. “I knew it was just a bruise. I wanted to stay in there.”

They put Niese on the DL to allow Daisuke to get a few more starts to showcase his value to a potential trade partner.  Nothing was wrong with Niese, they just couldn't keep Gee on the DL so they needed someone else.  Daisuke got a decent outing with 10 Ks....hope its enough

Things worked out fine for the Mets without Niese. He has a few days to relax and take it to the Padres.

@William Bonilla i hope not. I don't mind Dice-K, but i want to see Syndergaard or even Montero at this point

@Zac Tindall No way.  He just started  a lengthy rehab that will land him in Vegas.  He's not even on a MLB deal so he's not on the 40 man.
