News: Mets Option Daniel Murphy to Triple-A Buffalo

According to the Mets, Daniel Murphy’s rehabilitation assignment has ended in Port St. Lucie, and they have optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

Murphy was placed on the disabled list during the final week of Spring Training, and spent almost two months rehabilitating the injury.

Last week, Kieran Darcy of ESPN New York said the Mets plan to have Murphy play a variety of positions at Triple-A to make him more versatile.

…i can see Murph getting a lot of time at second base, especially in the short term, due to the durability problems with Luis Castillo and the bone bruise in his left foot, and if the Mets disable Castillo, i think it would make sense to promote him and see what he can do as a middle infielder, since he was “Wally Pipped” at first base by Ike Davis…
