Lannan

News: John Lannan has yet to report to Triple A

LHP John Lannan has yet to report to Triple-A Las Vegas due to a family matter (ESPN, Apr. 27).

Lannan accepted a minor-league assignment rather than become a free agent on April 19.

He had a 15.75 ERA in five relief appearances for the Mets this season. He had been part of the fifth-starter competition in Spring Training, but later switched to pitching in relief for the first time in his career.

Lannan will initially pitch in the bullpen for Vegas, but could also find himself moved back to the starting rotation (ESPN, Apr. 27).

I'm sure the guy is a decent fellow and I bear no ill-will but he was throwing batting practice during his time with the club. How many of these guys has Sandy brought-in during his tenure with the club? It's all too much.

I can imagine this must be a tough thing to face.  That your days playing MLB may be numbered.  But, as sympathetic as i am to his baseball mortality, he's still got to be professional.  a 9 day family matter?  Really?  Anyone here think if he was the #5 starter that he'd have a family matter that would require his attention to this length?  Right now his possible road back to the majors is through the Mets' (or another team's) minor leagues.  He's gonna have to come to grips with that...

Think so? Definitely possible and I would kind of understand but dice k is no fan of pitching in relief and has made it known. It would be tough to sell dice k on the move but I really think it may come down to a timing issue. Plus the Mets are waiting on Vic Black to get it together to come in and pitch late innings.

With the way Dice-K has been pitching out of the bullpen, they may keep him there rather than start him if one of the current starters were to get hurt, and I think they'd go with Lannan first then use one of the young studs yet

Eh. Idk if it matters. He isn't a bullpen guy and isn't getting a chance to start in NY any time soon. Sad stuff, wanted to see the local guy do well.

I hope the family matter is not too serious.  Good luck John.

@TooGooden16 @metsblog @dunningmathew @molliegalchus It's tough for him to leave Flushing, in the 80's it could be said that it was where Strawberry Fields.
