Daniel Murphy waits for the pitch 13rf

Murphy not in lineup, will see doctor

Daniel Murphy is not in the lineup on Tuesday against the Braves.

He is said to be “day-to-day” and will see a doctor on Tuesday.

Murphy left Sunday’s game with due to calf soreness and later said it started bothering him in the seventh inning (ESPN, Aug. 24).

Wilmer Flores will start at second base in Murphy’s place.

so esp once Colon is gone the team is in "play out the string" mode officially now?

Doctor will give him muscle relaxers and tell him to stay off it for a week.

Does this mean he's being seen next week? I hope it means he's being seen today! Without seeing a doctor, he knows he's in pain and one should not play if one is in too much pain. That makes him day-to-day, by default, without seeing a pro. But a doctor could let the team know, now, if they need to make some plans and whether Murphy should even be day-to-day and not simply resting for a given period of time.

Who runs this organization? It's about the team and what the team needs.

It's definitely best for them to be cautious, this late in the year, being completely out of a playoff race. Calves are tricky.

@Joe Paulson You think Colon is the only reason to watch this team? Wow, you truly have accepted mediocrity...

@rstpigeon But what the team actually needs is whatever thin cover is available to continue to make the case to attend games at Citi Field for the final month to the handful of people who might still consider it, right?
