Daniel Murphy 4 (Baron)

Murphy missed workout today due to ankle

Daniel Murphy did not work out with the Mets on Sunday, two days after saying he simply scraped his shin sliding in to second base during a Grapefruit League game.

“The only thing I can say is it’s day-to-day right now,” Murphy said (ESPN NY, Mar. 9).  “My leg’s a little sore right now. It’s just sore. It’s tough to really describe.”

Terry Collins said last week that Wilmer Flores will start at shortstop and second base this week. He also said Eric Young Jr. will only play second base during the season if Murphy is injured.

Murphy got his work in by swatting flies in the dugout.

I get injuries happen but, what team consistently has this many injuries with this consistency?  In the last 2 years the mets have had Matz, Harvey, Santana, Gee, Niese, and Hefner all miss either entire seasons or large chunks of time with shoulder injuries.  I can't count how many players missed time with oblique and hamstring and ankle injuries. Do other teams have these same problems with this many injuries seemingly always?

No tangible depth, not enough quality in the starting lineup.  Wait.ll next year.

Scraped shin, sore ankle, I guess surgery is in 2 weeks and he's out for the year.  Go go gadget crack medical staff.

At best, Murphy is a backup on a playoff team.

Fingers crossed this isn't a 'high ankle strain', I feel like those linger for a while.

@Vin Santiago  tommy john is common nowadays. a team can't predict when the elbow goes out. same with the shoulder.

Yes. The Braves. Except they find ways to win.

The Red Sox and Cards of last season are 25 Daniel Murphys!

@metsjets Yeah, OK. 13 HR, 78 RBI, 23 stolen bases, 38 doubles and he's a backup?

@billysuede @Vin Santiago  You are right about that but what about Beltran's knee injuries and the numerous hamstring injuries that linger for 2 months?  How come everytime a player gets a cramp on this team you don't see them for a month?  You probably will not see Duda or Davis for a good while because now they are both dealing with mysterious injuries that came upon suddenly, now Murph plays one game slides stupid and some how scrapes his shin and he's "day to day" with a scraped shin.  Next thing you know you'll have to hear about how he actually bruised his shin, then by around March 20th you'll find out he has a micro fracture in his shin and he needs surgery and will be back sometime around July.  What I'm saying is that a lot of us look at the injuries on this team and see how they progress or they linger and it just doesn't seem like the medical/training staff is doing their due diligence.

And the Mets consistent incompetence is not?   We haven't had a winning record in 5 years.  Payroll has been consistently declining.  The medical staff is run by the Keystone cops.  Forgive me that I don't give them the benefit of the doubt anymore.  You want positivity (and fans in the seats), try to win.

Since I don't drink the koolaid, then you can feel free to skip my posts by next time.

Some people are clueless.

Yes, they were. Teams built around scrappiness and an overarching desire to win! The combination of talent and willingness is what makes a champion!

Murph has some areas that need improvement, but it is hard to question his gritiness, ability to use all of his talents and wanting to be part of a winner!
