Murphy hits leadoff, Collins trying for lineup that scores runs

Daniel Murphy will hit leadoff Thursday, a move Terry Collins said could continue, in the event Murphy takes to the role.

“I told him not to change anything,” Collins said before Thursday’s game.

Also of note, Bobby Abreu will bat second; Chris Young will hit fifth; Wilmer Flores will start at shortstop; and Anthony Recker will be behind the plate.

“You have to try something,” Collins said. “I’m trying to put out a lineup that can put up runs.”

same old Metsies. Can't get the man in from 3b with 1 out, than lose the game the next inning

When you have a .235 hitter in Duda in the cleanup spot and Chris "Mario Mendoza" Young batting 5th how many runs can you really expect to score??? To top it all off, with the winning run on 2nd base we get Tejada as a pinch hitter!!!

well, 4 hits, no walks and 1 run thru 8. you can shake up this lineup however you want, it still sucks. it's the players, not the order. the pitching staff deserves better.

Wouldn't you love to see inside the mind of Terry Collins?

How long before some hitter takes a bat to Angel Hernandez' melon?

A lineup to try and score runs? I wonder what brings this philosophical shift ...

This team didn't bid for Jose Abreu and opted for Lucas Duda. The only quality hitter they ever signed was Curtis Granderson and anyone who thinks he is a cleanup hitter is being very very kind. Terry has to press and make questionable decisions because you can't do the same things over and over again during extended losing streaks. I think he's gotten quality play out of lackluster teams. It's a shame he'll never get that chance with a better team. However, I will be dancing in the streets if Wilpon sells the team. The possibility of Wilpon selling the team is what gets me up in the morning haha.

Don't feel bad for him. He makes mistakes over and over again. He needs to go. Sandy needs to go. The Wilpons need to go. Everyone needs to go

Shouldn't Collins always make a lineup because he is "trying for more runs?"

Since Wright is in a slump and wothless from the 7th inning on, why not him batting lead off?

You wanna score more runs? Get better hitters and better run producers!! Alderson said he didn't go after Nelson Cruz b/c he doesn't fit their approach! Which is what? Hitting singles and striking out with the bases loaded over n over again? Not being a Clutch hitter? Yes Mr. Alderson, you are right 20 home run by June doesn't fit this horrible team you're trying to sell us on. How dare you!!

At least he is trying lol

With Lagares on the DL, Terry only has either denDecker or CY capable of patrolling centerfield. Pick your poison.

Thankfully Chris Young is batting 5th, all sarcasm aside.

I think the front office has finally started to take Mets fans seriously, at least to some degree. I think they're telling Collins who to play and to shake up his lineups lately. He's also been told to hit and run because only recently has he begun to do it.

I'm not under any illusions the brass cares about Met fans, but they are definitely noticing their empty stadium.

Keep staying away from Citi and don't buy any Mets gear!

Nothing any of us say will do any good Collins doesn't have any choice Brown stunk last year and all they want to use him for is to give some one a break. He is the 25th man on the roster

Cool night. Jon struggles in this weather getting breaking stuff to bite. My guess is we also set a new record low attendance. I go for 19,700 paid.

Eric campbell brown and flores were all tearing up AAA when called up. There reason for promotion was to help the offense and start over struggling players. Instead they ride the pine when the same old non producers continue to get at bats. They go cold. Get one start a week and set back down after 3 weeks like they are the problem for not scoring runs. Now Terry wants to take the best hitter on the team this season and bat him lead off. He is the only hitter batting over .300 and is second in slugging to Duda. He should be batting third. And wright fourth. Or vise versa. These decisions on playing time and batting order positions are the reasons why collins must go. Murphy did fine in 4 hole this year in brief appearances. Now granderson is starting to hit gets hurt and he moves Murphy to lead ff. What the he'll has chris young done to earn any playing time let alone the 5 hole. FIRE TERRY

So one of the worst hitters in MLB is batting 5th for us today. WTF. TC needs to grow a nutsack and tell Sandy that his $7M dollar man is KILLING THIS TEAM.

I'll take dd every day, including Sunday. At least I can fool myself into hoping with den dekker.

Do you think the fans are telling TC to play Young? Really?

1harris1

That's scary, because the front office has no more of a clue how to put a lineup together than Collins does (probably less).

Still too many people at the ballpark. Need to take a zero off that number.

@Brandon Hillman  Campbell and Brown were not called up here to start.  Not sure where you got that idea.  They are bench pieces, who can get an occasional start against a lefty.  EVERYBODY hits in Vegas.  That doesn't mean they are major leaguers. These guys aren't worth talking about.

@1harris1 I don't disagree. Just referring to the fact things are changing at the top. Have to start somewhere.

@1harris1  I love going to games with small crowds.  Got a great deal on really good seats last homestand.  The waiter was at my seat every inning and my food and drinks came faster than I could ask for.  Its a different experience from when the team is good and the place is packed, but still very enjoyable.

@jamets @Brandon Hillman And Chris Young is worth talking about???? How about the DUDD at 1B. A .235 average with 8 home runs batting cleanup??? What a joke

Mickey Jennifer Wind

@jamets @Brandon Hillman than why call them up at all or make any changes?  They are not helping the team as bench pieces and you are not helping their careers by benching them. so either way the decision is stupid, especially when a dfa piece keeps batting 5th and getting time.

@jamets @1harris1 I actually got a burger and shake at the Shake Shack in a game like that. I got to the counter so fast, I didn't have my order ready.

Ha! I can remember many years ago when you could get an entire section to yourself at Shea. Good times, although the food is way better at Citi!

jamets
jamets

@JoMama @jamets @Brandon Hillman  Duda and Young are the same as Brown and Campbell.  It doesn't matter which ones you start - they are all the same.  That's why I don't understand people getting up in arms about which ones start - its irrelevant.

Not sure why you would include Grandy there.  Misspelled Tejada, Recker, or den Decker possibly?

jamets
jamets

@1harris1  Yeah, I grew up going to Shea in the late 70's/early 80's when the place was a ghost town.  Maybe that's why I enjoy it.

jamets

@JoMama @jamets @Brandon Hillman None of them belong in a starting lineup on a regular basis.  Most of them could probably do a decent job off the bench.
