Mr. Met now on blue alternate jersey

Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

I apologize for not seeing who was first to point it out, but Twitter started circulating the following jersey from Mets.com, which shows that Mr. Met will replace the All-Star Game patch on next year’s blue alternate uniform. This jersey debuted for the Mets in 2011, when they wore them once for Los Mets night. However, that uniform had the Mets logo as the patch. I’m happy to now see Mr. Met, who was also used last season on the team’s batting practice cap…

My appreciation for Mr. Met has grown since having a daughter, because I totally see now how he helps make Mets fans out of little kids. My wife is a Yankees fan, but her seemingly bland, black and white apparel can’t hold a candle to my colorful, fun-looking Mets gear, especially when teamed with Mr. Met, who my two-year-old girl knows by name and thinks is adorable. She also gets the biggest kick out of the Mets bobble head collection in my home office.

I liked this jersey when they gave Wright the new contract and he wore it with the orange brimmed hat, during the season they don't wear that combo and they should!

The Mets logo stays on the left sleeve. Want Mr. Met, or a map of Flushing on the uni? Fine; right sleeve. Folks want cartoons? Fine, turn on the TV on Saturdays. On unis, that's the mark of desperate, losing franchises. Classic contenders in all sports have stable, classic unis with strong marketing fan attachment. This clearly shows how the Wilpons see this franchise.

More importantly, how about some Hot Stove updates?

I bet Mr. Met appears in traditional home white uni on the logo of the blue alternates. I'm superstitious and we've only ever gone all the way in pinstripes.

The fact that this article is drawing negative comments is kind of ridiculous. It's a harmless article about the best mascot in baseball. Relax.

Does this mean mr. Met isn't going to be non tendered or included in that package for Ryan Braun?

I thought he was a goner for sure when insiders suggested that they were unhappy with his lack of hustle when he was dancing to Luna mezzo mare in the seventh inning.

My first job out of college had me working for a yankee fan. His wife was a Mets fan. I remember him telling me they were going to let their infant daughter make her own decision as to which team to root for. His wife bought tickets to a Mets game for them to see with the child. It turns out it was the game where they were giving away a stuffed Mr. Met for the kids. She kept that part from him until they got to the game.

Mr Met also hits better than 1/2 of the lineup!

@bugsy The Mets "have interest" in Mr. Met, but the recent $240 million contract handed out to the San Diego Chicken may impact the free agent market for mascots.

@Brian Daley I'm pretty sure the people who are responsible for making improvements to the roster aren't the ones working on the uniforms.

@JoeBenignoFan Mr Met has been a part of the franchise since 1962.  The Red Sox have their red socks logo on the side of their unis, why not Mr Met on Mets unis?  I think it's a great addition

@Tom Gallagher I love how the story ends right there because we all know what happened afterwards lol. Let's just say she won't be visiting the bronx too often.

@bromancer Sometimes, I think she hi-jacks his log in info, and goes to town on Dad`s laptop.

Sadly, I think, you're wrong. Due to cutbacks, the entire fashion department staff had to be let go.

Today's uniforms are designed and hand sewn by jay Horowitz, JP ricciardi and depodesta.

@xavier22 @JoeBenignoFan Mr. Met actually only dates to 1964, when the Mets moved to Shea from the Polo Grounds. All those oldtimey hats with Mr. Met and the year 1962 sewn on the front are wrong.

Mr Met was first seen in 1962, started out as a fan wearing a mask he made...Mr. Met was first introduced on the cover of game programs, yearbooks, and on scorecards in 1963, when the Mets were still playing at the Polo Grounds in northern Manhattan. When the Mets moved to Shea Stadium in 1964, fans were introduced to a live costumed version.
