Morning News: for April 7 (Reyes, K-Rod, Boyer's beard)

Jose Reyes jammed his left middle finger sliding into second base, but said he was OK after the game, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

Francisco Rodriguez finished his first game of the year, leaving 54 to go before his $17.5 million vesting option kicks in for 2012.

“It never entered my mind,” Terry Collins said after the game about using Rodriguez. “He needed work, so I told him he was going to get an inning.”

According to David Waldstein of the New York Times, “After he was done pitching, Blaine Boyer went into the clubhouse and, in an act born more of pragmatism than anger, shaved off his beard, leaving just a small goatee.”

Following last night’s loss, Mike Pelfrey should stick to the mental ABCs of pitching, according to Brian Costa of the Wall Street Journal.

Pedro Beato is looking forward to a New York homecoming on Friday, Andy Martino of the Daily News explains.

Lastly, according to John Gonzalez of the Philadelphia Inquirer, “The Mets have become a running joke in a never-ending communal comedy routine.”
