Middle infielder Danny Muno invited to camp

Middle infield prospect Danny Muno has been invited to big league camp.

Muno, 24, spent 2013 with Double-A Binghamton, where he hit .249 with a .384 OBP. He connected for 27 doubles, nine home runs and had 67 RBI. Muno has seen time at both second base and shortstop, playing the majority of his season at second with the B-Mets last season.

The Mets organization is notoriously thin on middle infielders, so Muno and his .404 career OBP over three season in pro ball, might be someone to keep an eye on.

Muno was suspended 50 games in 2012 for testing positive for a metabolite of Drostanolone.

Here is an SNY.TV video diary on Muno from last October...

Yadda yadda, tested positive for what?

Oh that's super. What're they trying to do to the mets brand.

Danny Muno?  Wasn't that Travolta's character in Grease? If so, he was terrible at baseball IIRC.

The Mets are thin everywhere except for guys with ties to PEDs.

That OBP from last year and throughout his minor league career is pretty impressive.

One of the more underrated guys in our system. He has skills that will keep him in the bigs for years even if he never gets regular playing time. I'd love to see him break camp on the 25 man

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln how was the play?  I think all numbers are suspect when a player has been suspended for PED's.

Mets are notoriously thin everywhere except at the Bartolo Colon

Are the Mets not notoriously thin in the outfield?

Circa 2002 maybe...I guess i have higher expectations, especially where OBP is concerned. Its always safer to bet against any minor leaguer's success so there's that, but I am fascinated by his unique mix of tools.
