MetsBlog Q&A: DeGrom talks about big-league camp, competing for rotation

Mets RHP prospect Jake deGrom is competing with  Daisuke Matsuzaka, John Lannan, Jenrry Mejia and others for the fifth spot in the starting rotation.

“Jake has really flown through the system,” Paul DePodesta said this week (NY Post, Feb. 19). “Certainly he’s close, but in terms of pitching years, he’s very young.”

DeGrom, 25, was ranked as the organization’s No. 10 prospect by Baseball America. He ended 2013 early with shoulder tightness, prior to which he was 7-7 with a 4.51 ERA in 26 starts with Single-A St. Lucie, Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Buffalo.
