Mets will promote Triple-A 1B-3B Eric Campbell on Saturday

The Mets will promote Triple-A 1B-3B Eric Campbell on Saturday, the team announced after Friday’s game.

Campbell, 27, got lots of playing time in Spring Training and traveled with the team to Montreal before being demoted to Triple-A.

He’s hitting .355 with a .442 OBP, three HR and 24 RBIs in 33 games in Triple-A. He plays mostly first and third base, though he has also seen time at second base and shortstop this season.

The Mets did not announce a corresponding roster move. However, given Campbell’s position, Josh Satin is the leading candidate to be demoted, according to multiple reports.

Satin went 0-for-5 on Friday, starting in place of Lucas Duda, who was unavailable due to food poisoning. Satin left five runners in scoring position. He has just three hits in 28 at bats this season.

People are complaining that a 27 year old career minor leaguer is not starting tonight for the Mets.

It's come to this.

Cool. Everyone's pretty much been given sufficient time to show who & what they are --- on all levels, from Queens to Savannah. Moves are starting earlier than I thought they would. Good. Soup has been solid all season in AAA, with Matt Clark hot right behind him in AA; Flores has been hot lately, so Soup & Wilmer are now here. Neither Tejada nor Q has hit a lick so Q's gone, and Tejada is pine-chained.

With Soup here, and others ready, Duda is the next one on the griddle. We expect him to run with the job once they shipped Ike off, but that hasn't happened. So, Lucas should be ear-marked to some non-NYC place, like KC or Arizona. Chris Young should also be looking over his shoulder.

The pitching staff is about ready to bubble over with moves soon, as well.

We don't know that they won't hit at the major league level either...

At least Duda's food poisoning accelerated getting Satin sent down. And I'd imagine Campbell will get at least 2 straight starts at 1B tonight and tomorrow afternoon.

The Mets hitting philosophy is patience at the plate and wait for the pitch that makes you strike-out. Last night was a good example of this.

Satin has had a poor start, but the folks bashing him are a-holes. He's barely played. It is the right move to make as Campbell looks like a better fit and has more pop. Hopefully Satin can find his swing in LV.

at least they are willing to throw noodles on the wall and see if they stick. Satin sucks and its time for a change

Its about time...Satin brought nothing to the plate. Eric young should be the next one out.

After watching last night's game, it is apparent that the Mets hitting philosophy sucks. Satin had opportunities to hit balls smack dab in the middle of the plate on the first pitch, he stood there watching. What the hell is he waiting for? The idea is to move runners on the base path and not strike out swinging at bad pitches. It is not just Satin but he is a good example of what does not work for our club.

Good hitting stats in AAA this season for Campbell, but, once Dave Hudgens gets to him, you can probably forget all that.  "Remember, Eric, despite all your previous training and success... Don't swing at the fat, juicy first pitch strikes they throw you!  And don't swing at the next two strikes, either!  It's company policy.  We're refining your strike zone."

Pay close attention:  This is how Cashen did it in 1984:  Davey managed all the young talent through the farm system, then took over in NY and already knew his players and how to use them.  Now that the ice is broken and talent is starting to flow out of AAA, I expect Wally Backman to be the manager before April, 2015.

ps:  I predicted the Campbell call-up and Satin's DFA 2 or 3 days ago, as I did the Flores recall and Q's banishment.  Thanks for paying attention, Jeff and Sandy.  Call me so I can flesh out the roster.  ;-)

Well, Campbell will put the ball in play, that's pretty likely, but once again, we're not really talking about a big bat here. This is most likely Daniel Murphy 2.0 with more flexibility in the field. Not a bad addition, and I think he will get more plate appearances due to his ability to play the entire infield, spot starting everyone, so getting into a groove shouldn't be much of an issue. The problem, once again, even though I like this move, is that we have no big scary bats. I would love to see Grandy put some of those foul balls and warning track shots into the seats, but obviously he is still turning it around - let's just hope that continues because we need his bat badly.

montero gave up NO hits last night.  The problem is clearly control over contract BUT the East has no team running away.  so patience can be a virtue when you look at our 3 pitchers in AAA.

we should not look short term but bring them up as soon as we gain that extra year.  Mejia is bullpen material while Thor is a starter.  Colon should be shopped immediately.  Montero can take his place when we move him if we can move him.  we may need to eat some of the money.  Just get a legit prospect for him.  draft a college player for a change please.  not an arm.

If he doesn't play regularly, more than once a week, he will not produce any better than Satin. Not every player finds his groove at the plate when he doesn't play often.

Satin had to go, it was like the bat was stuck on his shoulder. He is not a proven big leaguer with his approach not wanting to swing the bat hope he's gone forever from the Mets

It's about time! He should have been up here directly out of spring training. I'm firmly convinced that they only left him down there in order to build some value off Davis as trade bait.

Satin was good last year and I was fine with the Mets keeping him on the roster when the season began.  However, he has been garbage this entire year.  I don't see this move being a saving grace for the Mets but it won't hurt anymore than having Satin on the team.

I'm pulling for Campbell, he is from Norwich, CT where I live currently while stationed at the sub base in Groton. He played at the high school right behind my house. I have the fortune of being able to see the Cyclones when they come up here to play the CT Tigers, and the B-Mets when they play in New Britain. small world.

@jayeff2010 @SNYtv @metsblog @Mets  What makes you think that?  Recent history?  This same exact thing has happened season after season with this team, and "shake ups" never happen.

@hubie_wc Results are everything in this game. He was missing fastballs by 6+ inches on some swings last night. Staying up here isn't doing him or the team any good so the move makes total sense.

Mets hitters look like they've been using noodles in place of bats at the plate.

@David Graf I agree with you on Satin to go but not with Eric Young. Eric at least has speed to run the bases, can't say that about Josh.

@mesmo The Mets hitting philosophy is to make a good hitter a total failure just like the front office and the team coaches.

Whatever. Self praise stinks.

@doubleday  I hope you are right about Backman as I have always liked his passion for the game... his fire in the belly.  Even Teufel would be an improvement over Terry Collins.  However, the biggest problem I see is the contract extension the Wilpons gave to Terry.  They are not going to want to pay the remainder of his contract and Backman's.  Paying two managers at the same time, in their minds, would just be wasteful.

@doubleday Flush out the FO and the coaches and things will turn around quickly.

@Chad Michael  They say Satin is a 300 hitter when he plays every day but doesn't do well as a bench guy. I guess the poor-bench guy has been proven so far this year. Too bad I was rooting for him and always liked his approach at the plate.

Campbell now has a chance to not only replace Satin but to unseat Lucas.  The guy who tears the cover off the ball wins.

Go get em' Mr Soup!

Duda is still starting the majority of the time. You're deluding yourself if you think a journeyman playing in Coors Field will take that much time away from one of our best hitters this season.

@Jerry Colfer  It's "Wally Pipp" ... unless you are talking about Gladys Knight's back up singers.
