Mets will promote OF Andrew Brown on Thursday

Mets Triple-A OF Andrew Brown will travel to Wrigley Field on Wednesday, in advance of being promoted for the team’s final game against the Cubs on Thursday.

The team will again carry an extra bullpen arm, leaving them with just four players on the bench on Wednesday.

Mets relievers Buddy Carlyle or Dana Eveland is expected to be demoted to make room on the roster for Brown.

Brown is hitting .359 with 13 home runs and 31 RBI in 142 at-bats in Triple-A this season.

He started the season with the Mets, but hit just .185 with a home run and five RBI in the 27 at-bats before being demoted in late April.

This is what I was hoping would happen. Good. This is a great signal -- SA's telling his troops that it's a Meritocracy Period. Finally, no more of Omar's "You're next in line."

Was afraid it would be Kirk N. who has done just enough to maintain his experienced interchangeable part status, but hasn't brought all that much to the table in either the NL or PCL. I hope he picks up his game considerably as he has all the tools, but, like any tool, you have to pick it up to use it.

Brown, like Campbell, and a lot of other guys have been bringing it all year. Not just in AAA, either -- don't forget Matt Clark who's been trampling all over the EL, and who should've been in AAA but got shoved down to AA in a numbers crunch w/Alan Dykstra & Zach Lutz in AAA, both of whom have been crushing it.

I wasn't sure until now, but I'm now loving the system Sandy has put together, seeing who's bought into the system -- up & down the org. -- and is doing well.

Next week, following this week's draft, there should be some major blood letting in the org., as SA & assts. decide who's caught on to it, and who's not ever going to do so.

I'm seeing a number of releases, minor league trades & a major league trade or two looming

In any event, Brown makes our bench stronger right now.

Any chance chris young goes to the minors? When lagares is back, we don't have room for a guy who doesn't really do anything well

Buddy Carlyle or Dana Eveland IS expected ....

Meanwhile Angel Pagan is hitting .322 for the first place Giants who Alderson traded away for two players who aren't in the major leagues. My suspicion, they gave away Pagan because they thought den Decker would be ready by 2013. Nice move Sandy.

They should promote Dykstra, Pawlecki and maybe even Puello!  Duda and Travis are killing us

When you give 7 million to a guy that hit about the same last year...and the team he was on last had no interest in signing him..something's very wrong. Couple that with a guy making 15 million a year that hasn't lived up to his potential (age?) this year.... it makes for a long year. Thank god...(Hope that's okay to say Father) for the starting pitching or we would be the Cubs...Not sure there is a way to fix the OF this year, although I like Matt's hustle, power, and speed....

Let CY go to Vegas to work on things, get his head straight, play every day, and come back in two months ready to hit.  He's not ready now.

Young is 2 for 19 with men on and two outs.

Question has anyone found out who the PTBNL is from the Davis trade?

My playoff team's lineup:

EY

Lagares

Flores

Wright

Murphy

Duda

Campbell

Brown

Pitcher

Have Abreu batting in place of pitcher

I believe Brown is capable of 20 hrs 75 rbis ..if he played everyday.

Just cut Chris Young already...the guy was once again a black hole in our lineup last night.

Time to release both Youngs.

This was the worst lose this year which explains what Sandy has done with the team and of course TC gets little  credit for it and his hands are tied to Sandy and Wilpon.

Just make sure we use payroll and available options as the metric for judgement on who should be sent down and/or released.

Heaven forbid we utilize something silly like...say.....baseball performance results.

Brown, den Dekker, Abreu, Granderson, Chris Young and Campbell. Why not carry six outfielders?

Besides we need the offense. The bullpen didn't cost us the game, the non hitting did.

@Mike Miller

I believe the front ofc. scenario now is to give him the promised # of ABs in his deal (to show future FAs that the Mets play fair w/FAs), let him build a large enough body of work to be irrefutable, and then either ship him out or cut him, if he doesn't pull out of it. As of last night, he had mirror numbers to what he had in OAK last year at this time. So, yeah, it wasn't just a slump, as everyone hoped, it turns out that it was an end-of-career slide. Even his vaunted OF play & baserunning has been slow, stiff and uninspired.

Nice a teaching-learning moment on Mets Blog!  A+++

@Phil Mancini Angel Pagan had what 19 chances with the Mets?  He was a wildcard and supposedly he was a jerk and nobody liked him.  They would have had to commit to him and they didn't. That's baseball.  If grandma had balls she'd be grandpa.  I'm not gonna get sick over Angel Pagan.  The Mets gave him plenty of time, money, chances.

@Phil Mancini  Meanwhile Carlos Beltran is hitting .234 for the Yankees (and is hurt to boot) and all he got was Zack Wheeler.  Nice move Sandy.

joe21

@George Komninakis  they will live with Travis offense for sometime, they need to make sure he can handle the staff, which when fully constructed is going to have a ton of heat and junk coming at the catcher. they need someone who can direct high quality stuff not only from starters like Harvey, Noah, Wheeler, Niece, Gee, deGrom, even Dice K, but pen arms like Familia, Black, Meija and a few on the way.

for the mets to maximize their staff, they need one of the top defensive catchers in the league. Darnaud aint that yet, but they are more concerned about his ability to handle an awesome arsenal that will be coming at him for the next few years. if he does that and starts to hit a little bit like expected, he is a definite keeper

@George Komninakis  How is Duda killing us?

Plawecki has only 164 ABs over A-ball.

Puello is one of the worst hitters on his team in AAA.

@George Brezny Still think Granderson will be ok.  Its going to take a while for his numbers to bounce back from April, but he posted a respectable .836 OPS in May.  Let's see how June goes before we say he's washed up.

I'll go even further...let him go to VEGAS and bring him back in November....

@theglider Wouldnt consider Campbell an "outfielder". He's more like the platoon guy for Duda. I bet he starts at first on Thursday vs. Wood.

Phil Mancini

@rico @Phil Mancini rico, Pagan had one off year in 2011 otherwise he preformed nicely in his time with the Mets. When Melky Cabrera was suspended in 2011 Pagan moved into the leadoff slot and helped lead the team to a championship. That is why the Giants signed him for 40 million over 4 years.

John Doerr
John Doerr

@kingman76 @kefhrny17 I know Andrew Brown has proved nothing at the major league level. But looking at his AAA stats for this year, I would put him into the 2 slot in the lineup, move murphy to 3, and wright to 4. Then run him out in left every single day until he proves he sucks for real. I mean everyone else they put in left is garbage, just give brown a shot.

John Doerr
John Doerr

@zoddie @George Komninakis All you have to do is watch him play to see he sucks. How many warning track fly balls and strikeouts? How many times does he get jammed and have a dinky little fly to the shortstop or 2B? He gets a lot of walks because he has darnaud and tejada behind him most of the time. If he had better hitters behind him, he would just swing at the strikes and fly out / pop out more.

zoddie
zoddie

@George Komninakis Seriously, explain the Duda comment.  Duda as a higher OPS than...

Lagares,

Wright,

Murphy,

Grandy,

Tejada,

Chris Young,

Eric Young,

D'Arnaud,

Flores,

Recker,

Nieuwenhuis,

den Dekker,

and Ike Davis (in case you were wondering).

greekgod

@vimets I forgot since we really don't have a good one to begin with.....put in Recker instead of EY. and bat eighth.

zoddie
zoddie

@Bob Burket @Albert E Lewis Actually for Vegas he is on pace for (assuming he got 600 ABs, which would be a little over 150 games)...<hope you're sitting down>

135 Runs

215 Hits

51 2b

4 3b

55 HR

131 RBI

0 SB :)

Sooo...yeah, I think the guy has earned a promotion.

zoddie
zoddie

@Phil Mancini @zoddie  Fine, how about:

Meanwhile RA Dickey has had an ERA of over 4 for two years now and all we he got was our starting catcher and one of the best pitching prospects in all of baseball.

My point isn't that Sandy made a good trade with Pagan.  I liked the guy, even though he was an idiot at times.  My point is that you win some trades and you lose some.  Sandy has won WAY more than he has lost (Beltran, Byrd, Dickey to name three).

hubie_wc
hubie_wc

Ops is a bs stat. Two out walks and solo hrs down mean nothing.

Phil Mancini
Phil Mancini

@zoddie You are bringing up Dickey? He had a winning record for a losing team last year and is 6 -4 this season while d'Arnaud is a bust. The Pagan trade was the worst Mets trade in at least a decade. Byrd was a short term pickup and let me correct myself, Beltran made 3 All Star teams since the season he was traded.

zoddie
zoddie

@hubie_wc  You're a CLUTCH man, eh?

Luda with RISP this year - .289/.429/.600

Out of his 8 HRs this year (which leads the team), 5 have been with runners on, 3 have been solo shots.  Care to try again?

Also explain to me how solo HRs don't mean anything.  One worked out pretty well for the Cubs last night, no?

zoddie
zoddie

@Phil Mancini  If you ask 30 GMs today, knowing what we know now, if they would rather have Thor and D'Arnaud or Dickey, all 30 would say Thor and D'Arnaud.

The worst trade in the past decade was the Scott Kazmir trade.  Nothing else is close.

So your point is Sandy makes bad trades?

anymos
anymos

@zoddie And I'd say that two out walk d'Arnaud drew the other night in Philly- in front of Duda's 2 run HR-  proved to be pretty meaningful, no?

zoddie
zoddie

@Samuel Mateyak @zoddie  Was that before or after he went 1-3 with a walk and extended his hitting streak to 7 games?

Oh, I get it.  He was sucking you! (See what I did there?  You're the @ss).
