The Mets head to Minnesota to play a makeup game Monday against the Twins, with Dillon Gee (8-8, 3.79) taking on Kyle Gibson (2-3, 6.27) at 2:10 PM ET.
Also this past weekend, in case you missed it, Travis d’Arnaud made his big-league debut. He was hitless in four bats, during two games, but walked four times.
The Mets plan to keep d’Arnaud on the roster once John Buck returns from paternity leave, despite what was reported last week.
Meanwhile, Jenrry Mejia left Saturday’s game after aggravating his right elbow. Sandy Alderson later said Mejia will have his elbow examined Monday in New York. Mejia told reporters last month that he will likely need surgery in the offseason to remove bone chips in his elbow.
The Mets recalled RHP Greg Burke from Triple-A Las Vegas to replace Mejia on the roster.
Jeremy Hefner will also see an elbow specialist on Monday, at which point it will be determined whether he needs Tommy John Surgery.
The Mets are off this Thursday. Carlos Torres could join the rotation later this week, since roster considerations might limit Alderson’s options in the minor leagues, he told reporters.
Wilmer Flores returned to the lineup after missing five games with a sprained right ankle. He had one hit in seven at bats. ”He’s not 100 percent,” Terry Collins said.
Speaking of Collins, the Mets have made a tentative decision on whether to retain Terry Collins beyond this season, ESPN New York reported. According to the report, it is “widely expected” Collins will be given a new deal after this season.
