The Mets have traded OF Collin Cowgill to the Angels in exchange for minor league OF Kyle Johnson.
Johnson, 23, was hitting .308, 16 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 30 RBI with 30 stolen bases with Single-A Burlington of the Midwest League.
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Johnson will report to Single-A Savannah.
The Mets designated Cowgill for assignment last week, and were reportedly trying to deal Cowgill to the Angels over the weekend.
Michael Baron, ContributorIt’s a shame it didn’t work out with Cowgill. I thought he brought a lot to the table in terms of his gritty play and the qualities it took to be a productive leadoff hitter. He hit that grand slam on opening day and it seemed as though the approach he had during camp – a short swinging, contact-like methodology – went by the wayside. Instead, he became impatient and was taking big hacks in most of his plate appearances, and that resulted in a low on-base percentage and a high strikeout rate. I wish him well in Anaheim, and hope he can get his act together out there…
