Mets to roll back ticket prices to honor Shea Stadium

The Mets will honor Shea Stadium’s opening 50 years ago with 1960s-era ticket prices for the April 18-20 series against the Braves.

A limited number of tickets will cost $3.50, the price of a box seat when the stadium opened in 1964. They will also offer box seats tickets for the price of $19.64.

To purchase tickets, visit Mets.com/1964.

Shea Stadium was named after William A. Shea, the attorney who was the driving force in bringing a National League team back to New York City. The Mets called Shea home from 1964-2008, and captured the franchise’s two world championships in 1969 and 1986 at the stadium.

Suprising they are doing this against the Braves, you would figure it would be a team with less draw.  Nice treat.

Maybe Mark Cuban can buy the mets and the islanders

Too bad they can't roll back to previous owners.

mets better start hitting, cause even if the tickets are FREE i'm not going.....

The mets should just give free tickets away if they want people at Citi.... who the hell will pay to see this garbage product?!?!!?!!?!!

Finally a good move.  Mets need to start doing Dollar hotdog nights too

It's actually really amazing how out of touch they are with the fan base. It's to try to fill seats then they spin it (lie to fans) to make it sound interesting...insulting our intelligence in the process.

Geez, people will complain if tickets were free.  I swear.  Personally I think this is a pretty good deal, and I'm sure many will agree. I'm usually very critical of this organization and what they do, however I'll admit that if I wasn't busy all weekend I'd absolutely go to one of these games at those prices....  Mets vs Atlanta is a pretty good series and I think those prices are quite fair.  But some people will never be satisfied...

A nice gesture, certainly, but a clear attempt to "paper the house" & a sign of their panic over empty seats. Winning makes a vastly more compelling inducement.

I'm sure season ticket holders and the few people that already bought tickets must be thrilled with this

If they wanted to honor Shea Stadium, they should've replicated an updated version of its design, instead of Ebbets Field, for Citi Field.

This is the sign we need...the desperation of the Wilpons to get people into the seats. Good. I hope no one shows up for $3.50

boy, they are desperate. All those empty seats on the broadcasts ...

This isn't because they want to honor Shea Stadium, it's because they've probably sold 15,000 tickets and don't want to look like fools

I think they rolled back the team to the 62 Mets

Everyone needs to go watch that Jeff Francoeur video right now.  Hilarious.

Wish they had named the new stadium Shea Stadium instead of Citi-Field.

Until the Mets make any noise in the standings, $3.50 should be the standard price for every game.

How come there is not a site here that shows Mets titles and wins/losses since 1962?

It's such a pain in the ass having to check Adam Rubin's Twitter feed for the lineup 2 or 3 hours before you guys post it. You used to be faster about it...

when was the last time Mets won a division title?

A $3.50 ticket after handling fees and taxes ends up costing $10.25.

You can still buy a cheaper ticket on Stubhub and their are no hidden fees.

They should just lower the ticket prices, period. I'd be embarrassed as a team owner if I saw all those empty seats behind home plate.

Wilpon and company will rip you off it it comes down to making a few bucks because that is what Wilpon is all about.

Do not go to a game!!!!!!!!!!

I think in the early 70's the field level ticket price jumped to a whopping 4 bucks. As a kid back then, I thought that was a fortune.

I miss Shea. It was a dump, but it was our dump. Citi is cursed because Wilpon thought he was recreating the Brooklyn Dodgers and, when the fans complained during the first half of the initial season at Citi, that Wilpon put up a few pictures of former Mets to acknowledge that the team he owns played there. Please Mr. Wilpon, SELL THE METS!!!

I will not go to a game if they don't trade for a 100 RBI player. I will NOT!

A hot dog will probably cost you $10.50-12.50 with mustard!

Will parking prices mimic 1964 since they would be double the ticket price?? Ha.

Metsblog is wrong about the price.

The actual price for a ticket is $10.25.

They charge $6.00 for handling fees and .75 cents tax on top of the $3.25.

@Andy  Mets really should bring their ticket prices down across the board if they really want to show this fanbase something...  (As well as concession prices.) - Dollar hotdog night would be nice....

Michael Fichera

@DMMP  I bought two tickets. I mean a hot dog and a beer will double my cost of going but so it is.

metjetnet

@Bryan McEntee So, maybe some Polo Ground pricing will soon be in order! Or, maybe since Wilpon loves Ebbets Field so much, he'll install 1947 Brooklyn prices to Sub-Prime Field in short order...

Fred Wilpon, ever the showman!

@Rimo Chaloney  The fact that it has a corporate name is pretty sad; in actuality, not much worse than Shea stadium, named after a politician, but at least not a money grab.

greekgod

@Eric Carlos Torres  I may go to a game if the price for the tickets were $1.50; hot dog was $1.00 and beer was $2.50. If that doesn't change then I stay home and watch it on my 55" screen.

Why tell people what they should or shouldn't do?  I like going to baseball games.  Therefore I will go to baseball games.  I wouldn't tell you you should go  to a game.

@greekgod  The $6 at the stand is high enough, thank you. The real rip-off are the tiny pretzels. The beer on the field was $12, but it was 24oz. Which, as beer outside goes, is not shocking or anything.

Andrew Vazzano

@tullydew  We're not wrong. That's what the tickets are offered at. That is the price of the ticket.

greekgod
greekgod

@tullydew  I don't like it even if the price was $1.50, I still won't go to a game as long as the team is at .500 or below it. I'm not going to a game gas long as we don't have a heavy hitter that can put over 100 rbi's during the year. I'm am not going to a game as long as we don't have a legitimate closer in the bullpen.

greekgod

@buckets @greekgod  I understand that; I like to go to games myself but since the Mets management are in contempt of fans I choose not to go and hope that other Mets fans show Wilpon that we will not stand for it.

I used to go to at least 2 or 3 games a year but not since 2008.
