The Mets recalled RHP Greg Burke in time for Sunday’s series finale against the Indians.
In addition, the Mets announced they will recall OF Mike Baxter, C Juan Centeno, and RHP Aaron Harang before Monday’s game against the Nationals.
The Mets are still expected to call up Ruben Tejada, although there was originally some doubt as to whether or not they would.
Terry Collins told reporters on Sunday they will wait to promote Tejada until Tuesday,
Waiting to promote Tejada until Tuesday forces a delay in his free agency by a year.
However, the Mets are unlikely to promote either Kirk Nieuwenhuis or Robert Carson.
Michael Baron, ContributorUpdated from Sept. 8, 6:55 am: Regarding Tejada, this wouldn’t be the first time the Mets acted in their own best interests when promoting a player. But the fact they weren’t even certain whether or not they would call him up is yet another indication of how far Tejada’s stock has fallen this season. Sandy Alderson has made no secret about their issues with Tejada recently, either. In the end Tejada has neither produced or adjusted, and he’s clearly a minor leaguer in their eyes as a result.
If there has been any clarity brought by Tejada’s situation this season, it’s that the front office has an unforseen hole, something which must be filled from outside the organization this winter.
