Sandy Alderson said he met with Scott Hairston’s agent today.
Alderson said it is possible he could give a two-year deal to a free-agent outfielder, but it is something he would want to be very careful about.
This week, the Tigers, Yankees, Giants, Cardinals and Indians have all reportedly shown interest in Hairston, who is said to be seeking a multi-year contract.

The buzz in baseball is that Hairston will likely get a two-year, $10 million deal, though he’ll certainly look for more. He’s a platoon player, and most people see him as such, including the Mets.
Initially, the Mets were saying there was little chance of competing to bring Hairston back. That seems to have changed, probably because of extra money opening up in the budget (thanks to David Wright and Jason Bay).
