Sandy Alderson has started to reach out to teams that once showed interest in 1B Ike Davis, a source familiar with the discussions said (Rubin, Mar. 18).
He is also open to trading Lucas Duda, who has seen interest from at least one team in the American League (Rubin, Mar. 18).
In addition to Davis, Red Sox 1B Mike Carp, Phillies 1B John Mayberry and Nats 1B Tyler Moore are all likely available (Stark, Mar. 18).
The Pirates and Astros continue to show interest in acquiring a first baseman (Stark, Mar. 18).

Umm, at this point, I’d argue the Mets need a first baseman, too. I mean, I’d take back Carp in a second, given his ability to hit right-handed pitching as a compliment to Josh Satin. The same can be said for Duda, but not if he’s hurt and not if he’s traded. Man, what a mess… By the way, the Astros make a ton of sense for Duda, who projects as a DH down the road.
1:25 pm: The more I think about it, given that Davis must have very little value, I’m wondering if this is a sign the team is considering releasing him before the start of the year. Remember, if they do this, they’re only on the hook for $600,000 of his roughly $3.5 million salary.
