Mets still looking for a veteran bullpen arm

The Mets are still looking to add a veteran bullpen arm, whether as a free agent or by trade, according to Sandy Alderson (Rubin, Jan. 7).

Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

Jan. 2: The Mets are optimistic Bobby Parnell will be 100 percent ready for Opening Day. He had surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck in September. Nevertheless, from what I can gather, Sandy Alderson is still looking to acquire an experienced late-inning reliever.

As it stands, Parnell, Vic Black, Jeurys Familia, Gonzalez Germen, Scott Rice, Josh Edgin and Carlos Torres are the odds-on-favorites to end up in the opening day bullpen. I expect we’ll also hear a lot about minor leaguers Joel Carreno, Jack Leathersich and Jeff Walters. The Mets have also been linked to free-agent RHP Mitchell Boggs (Sherman, Dec. 9). I also think they’d love to acquire immediate bullpen help in a deal for Ike Davis, but I’m still not sold he can bring this much back in trade.

I'll say it again since you again have posted the same article:  Familia is no lock to even make the major league roster out of Spring Training.

What's Octavio Dotel's health status?  Could be had on minor league deal.  Age and experience similar to Hawkins.  Just not sure about health.

Could Kyle Farmsworth be an option for thr mets

They need one of those thick skinny wily vet types who can pitch 4-5 games a week and not get ruffled.  TC can pitch him until his arm falls off.  You need these guys, what I call "oldsmobiles" to save the quality arms from being over-used and mentally and physically damaged.

I would resign Brandon Lyon and pick up Mike Gonzalez for about 2 million. The bullpen would be set.

if they can add a experienced late inning guy, i think this has the making of a very solid bullpen for some reason, but there the mets so prob wont be.

Colorado offered him the closer role, which the mets could not do
