Michael-Conforto

Mets still finalizing deal with top pick Michael Conforto

While the main terms and signing bonus have been agreed upon, the Mets are still finalizing their deal with Michael Conforto (Heyman, July 2).

Conforto, a 21-year-old outfielder from Oregon State, was selected by the Mets with the 10th overall pick during the first round of the June 5 draft.

It was reported a few weeks ago that the Mets and Conforto had agreed to basic terms, but there are still details to work out.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said “there are three or four [mostly] non-financial clauses” that are being hammered out, and added that he “certainly” expects the deal to get done.

The Mets have until July 18 to finalize their deal with Conforto.

This is the exact reason why no talented free agent would want to play for us.  EVERYTHING including signing the best hitter in the draft is a f'n problem!

Geez, for a college kid this is taking a long time. It's not like he has many other options that to just sign already. He's not going to want to go back to college for his last year; it's not like he can improve his draft status much over the #10 pick overall, and he'd have even less leverage then.

h e probably wants to make sure that he has in his contract that he will not be held down in the minors when he is ready for the majors because of any super 2date

Every game the Mets lose, the asking price gets higher.  Would love to be in his, and his agents position!!

Why does ANYTHING to do with money or contracts always a major problem with this franchise?

Would you want to sign with this mess of a franchise, knowing that the current regime will push their so-called advanced metrics and hunting for strikes garbage in your face?

Between the Islanders and the Mets I don't know who's front office/owners are worse when it comes signing or trading.

In case you haven't noticed, we need prospects because the ML players we have can't play,no other team is looking to trade their hitting prospects and the budget is 85 mil so FA is out.So yea we need prospects.

So apparently, all of our hitting prospects are worth something in your eyes. The only prospects we have that are of any value are our pitching prospects. It'll be yrs b4 we know whether or now t this kid is worth much. And you must be sandy's assistant to know what our budget is right. You dont know what they r capable of spending. Bottom line is, mets dont want to spend b/cthey dont have their ducks aligned. I bet They r waiting for the opportunity when they have most of their pitching prospects in the rotation 1 through 5 before rhey commit to any hitter long term. So most like many fans we dont need to hear more prospects who wont be in the picture for several yrs to even determine if they will even become a tradeable chip or not. So yea like I said enough with havimg to hear about our prospects.
