Mets sign RHP Wanel Mesa to minors deal

According to Baseball America, the Mets have signed RHP Wanel Mesa to a Minor League contract.

Mesa has pitched in the Independent League since 2011 and most recently appeared with the Bridgeport Bluefish, making three appearances and one start and allowing seven earned runs in 6 2/3 innings last season.

He spent 2006-2010 in the Nationals organization, last appearing for Single-A Hagerstown in the South Atlantic League in 2010. He went 2-4 with a 7.00 ERA in 38 relief appearances that season, and is 9-15 with a 5.95 ERA in seven professional seasons.
