The Mets announced they have signed LHP Scott Rice and RHP Carlos Torres to Minor League contracts and have invited both to Spring Training.
Rice, 31, is a career Minor Leaguer, spending 14 seasons in the Orioles, Rangers, Padres, Rockies, and Dodgers organizations. He went 2-3 with a 4.40 ERA in 54 relief appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque in the Dodgers’ organization last season, and is 39-55 with a 4.08 ERA in 480 appearances and 54 starts in his career.
Torres, 30, went 5-3 with a 5.26 ERA in 31 relief appearances with the Rockies last season, and was 5-4 with a 3.98 ERA in 14 appearances and 13 starts with Triple-A Colorado Springs. He is 6-6 with a 5.97 ERA in 44 big league appearances and six starts in his career.
