Mets sign Brian Bixler to minors deal

The Mets announced they have signed 30-year-old Brian Bixler to a Minor League contract and have invited him to Spring Training.

Bixler played in 36 games for the Astros in 2012, hitting .193 with a .253 OBP, two home runs and seven RBI in 96 plate appearances – he is a career .189 hitter in 183 Major League games since 2008.

Bixler hit .269 with a .346 OBP, three home runs and 19 RBI in 281 plate appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Pacific Coast League in 2012.
