Zack Wheeler pitched into the seventh inning and was removed with two outs and the pitcher on deck after reaching 105 pitches on Monday.
“We said before the game, 105 was the limit,” Terry Collins said. “After what happened today (with Matt Harvey), we’re sticking to it.”
Wheeler told reporters that, while he wanted to remain in the game at that point, he understands the team’s concerns right now.
“It’s definitely going to be a while before any of us get back up there in pitch count,” Wheeler said. “It’s not their fault but it’s human when your best pitcher goes down, his UCL, but it’s part of the game and I understand it.”

To be fair, it’s unclear whether or not it was Terry’s call to remove Wheeler at that point in the game. Nevertheless, the organization cannot manage the roster out of paranoia and fear. Nothing good can come of that. These things happen, especially to pitchers.
