Mets re-sign Farnsworth

The Mets officially re-signed RHP Kyle Farnsworth to a minor league contract.

The 37-year-old opted out of his previous minor league deal with the team, but didn’t find a deal elsewhere.

He has a 5.63 ERA in seven appearances this spring, during which he allowed 10 hits and walked four batters.

Bobby Parnell, Vic Black, Jose Valverde, Jeurys Familia, Carlos Torres, Scott Rice and John Lannan are expected to be the team’s Opening Day bullpen.

So, a fading re-tread reliever calls Sandy up asking for a minor league deal, and Sandy signs him - Sandy loves reclamation projects.  I wonder if he knew Farnsworth was the same guy he just released.

yay! I just can't wait to see him get lit up during the season for 3-5 runs an inning :)

No Black will open season and triple-A Las Vegas as their closer . I can only hope this opens up a spot for German who has pitched well and has a great changeup

Did Black really earn a spot this spring?

Hell ya, this is the last piece of the puzzle to get the Mets to the playoffs.

What has Sandy REALLY done this off-season besides REPLACE production instead of ADD to the win column?  With the exception of Wright, Granderson, and Murphy - this team is a bunch of question marks.  They are destined for a 72-76 win season.

3 playoff appearances in 25 years...in the NY market...unacceptable.

remember, if no one has interest in you, there's always the mets.

Fun Fact #16: In the 1976 season, Mets slugger Dave Kingman belted 30 Home Runs by mid-July and was on pace to topple Roger Maris's then Home Run record of 61 in a single season!  Unfortunately for Kong, an injury kept him out of action for six weeks, but the excitement of that season lingered on!

@Lets Go Mets! (True story) Dave Kingman while playing for Oakland packaged up a live rat and sent it to a female sports reporter.

The Mets have this thing about signing the emotionally unstable.  If you're the "feel good" guy, I"d avoid bringing up Kingman.

That happened when he was on the Cubs.
