Rafael Montero 3 (BARON)

Mets prospect Montero has oblique strain

Mets RHP prospect Rafael Montero left his start for Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday in the first inning due to injury after throwing five pitches.

The Mets announced on Sunday that Montero left with a left oblique strain.

Montero, 23, had allowed 9 runs in 8 innings in the three starts since being demoted by the Mets on May 31.

So he came up, TC and Warthen got their hands on him, and now he can't get anyone out and is hurt.

Of course he's injured. They all are. This team is like a hospital ward.

I'm a fan of Montero. Met him in Spring Training. That said; he didn't look good at all in his few spot starts. Looked like a potential long-man out of the 'pen. Sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Our crack medical staff has narrowed down his injury to his left side! That's progress!

The season is over and it's only June. There will be more people at my kids little league game than at Citi Field. I heard they had a plan I just don't see it. I like Granderson but he is a complimentary player. Unfortunately they can't even make a trade because other Gms smell blood in the water and we will have to over pay. Stand pat and wait 3 years for the guys in st lucie to make there mlb debut

Who is going to want any injured pitching when you go to make a trade?..Besides that Sandy has done almost nothing to improve the hitting on this team...he knows this offense sucks yet he does nothing.... im outta here ..All the dads out their HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

Another Backman-related injury. Unfair, you say? Try blaming TC, why don't you. It's the easy way out.

Add to the good news pile on !!! With Montero and Syndergaard hurt, Wheeler struggling, there won't be enough to make a July trade. Not that the Mets would make one. Except trading Colon, just to dump his $11 million 2015 contract.

Not surprising hell probably be out three months

@Tarheel11 A doctor walked past a room with 6 mets doctors and Montero, looked into the room and saw Montero wincing in discomfort and said "Its his oblique. Its always the oblique." the doctor sipped his coffee and walked away.  The Met's staff then worked to figure out if it was the right or left oblique.

@hankypanky You don't think Montero might have injured himself at the major league level, trying to to do too much and impress... under TC... and only confessed to being injured when he returned to AAA?

Any casual observer of the Mets knows that TC has poor management skills - especially in handling and over using pitchers (see J. Santana, S. Rice, C. Torres). Watch the games and see how many slavish righty/lefty match up switches, single batter appearances and overused pitchers Terry Collins employs.  Is it any wonder the bullpen gets blown out by May?  Of course, an anemic offense doesn't help, but a good manager adapts and starts planning ahead.

@Kevin VanTassell  You forgot to mention Gee still being out injured much longer than originally thought. And at this rate the Mets won't even be able to deal Colon because they'll have no one left to take his spot in the rotation if they do.

@Kevin VanTassell  With CY pending release and Colon trade by deadline 2/3 of the Mets top acquisitions will be off the team before August, great job front office....

@Kevin VanTassell  I believe CY's release is only pending in hopeful fans minds not in actual reality. That's way too much money for the Mets to just completely give up any chance of any kind of return on their money this early in the season. To me there's no way he's cut until at the very least after the trade deadline. I can see the Mets holding out hope to get a super hot few weeks of power from CY to potentially pawn him off on a team in contention in need of a CF
