Wheeler to AAA, but not likely to pitch for Mets in 2012

This afternoon in San Francisco, Sandy Alderson told reporters it was unlikely Zack Wheeler, who was promoted to Triple-A today, will pitch in the big leagues this season.

Alderson said Wheeler has a limit in place of around 150 innings this season, and that will allow him to only pitch through the remainder of the Bisons’ season.

Wheeler went 10-6 with a 3.26 ERA in 19 starts for Double-A Binghamton, allowing 92 hits and 43 walks while striking out 117 in 116 innings.
