Andrew Vazzano, SNY.tvAn awesome interactive chart has popped up, which shows major league team payrolls from 1998 through 2023. Phil Roth, who put this together with data from Cot’s Baseball Contracts, said he put it together because he “just wanted to find out how screwed my beloved Phillies are in the coming years.”
Though not perfect (data is only what’s available, arbitration not available for future season, doesn’t have deferred salaries, etc.), it’s still an interesting look at how the Mets — and other teams — were set up in the past and what they’re on the hook for in the coming decade.
Here’s the Mets active payroll chart, where only Jason Bay, Jon Niese and David Wright are on the Mets tab for next season, and Niese and Wright are the only players past 2015:
