Mets officially release Chris Young

The Mets have officially released Chris Young.

The team designated him for assignment on August 8.

Young hit .205 with a .283 OBP this season after signing a one-year, $7.25 million deal in the offseason.

“It caught me off guard,” he said when he was DFA’d. “I wasn’t expecting it. I understood the playing time has changed, I realized that.  I didn’t realize this was coming. The team has to do what is best for the team and I respect that.

"I was shocked" is this guy bum joking? He was trash to begin with. Terrible signing. Waste of money.

I too was shocked. The guy was hitting .283!

What? That was his On Base Percentage? Really? oh, never mind ;)

How on earth could you not see it coming? THis explains why he couldn't hit I guess.

If he had to be on the team, he should have been cut at the All Star game. Young was getting paid whether or not he played so why did they keep him so long?

Websters Dictionary, under the term 'in-denial' you will find a picture of one Chris Young with the caption : “It caught me off guard,”.  smh....

Finally... Should have never signed him to begin with. Scouts were saying he's done all yr.

I may be the only one who thinks this but the Young mistake could make it more likely we pay for quality next year. Sometimes the one year contract for the undervalued player backfires. They aren't all Marlon Byrds. So, maybe Alderson learned the hard way for next year when it really counts.

Swing and a miss by Sandy on this one, wish CY the best of luck but the guy just isn't a very good baseball player anymore and hasn't been for the last couple years. It was time for mets to move on, I think they've been moved on for a week or two already but now its official

.... TO DO LIST FOR SANDY FOR 2015: is A LEGIT/POWER BAT FOR A CORNER OF SPOT and FIGURING OUT SS plus some tweaks.

Terry has to be replaced for 2015 as well, time for a change at manager..wilpons need to step up as well.

Worth the risk in the beginning. Clearly didn't pay off and needed to be cut.

The only thing that should be shocking to CY about this is that they released him even though they were paying him so much, when your hitting .200 you should expect to get released

Not like our offense gets any better. Just brutal management all around. Don't like this. CY's a really good dude. Wasn't a good signing from the start but does NOT feel like the mets are good enough to justify releasing a 7 mil player.

The greatest waste of life mass to ever do a Mets uniform

I just find it hilarious that he was surprised, like he thought he had done ANYTHING to be worth being in the lineup on any team this year.

A particularly big celebration was had on Mercury.

@krayzie Brutal management?  There are a lot of things you can rip the management for but releasing Young is NOT one of them.

@krayzie  He might be a "really good dude", but he's an awful baseball player.  There's no good reason for him to be on the Mets roster at present, given the team's current situation.

Nothing personal against the guy.  Good luck to him wherever he goes.  I suspect he won't even be in the major leagues next season, but I hope for his sake I'm wrong.

You're right CY is a really good guy. I hated to see him fail, as should all METS fans. People who get pleasure from this failure are themselves the ultimate losers, and not fans at all.

Agreed he didn't play well, but perhaps his reason for saying he was surprised is that unlike most of us, he doesn't read the papers or listen to the gasbags on sports talk radio.
