Mets offense comes alive in Miami

The Mets scored 18 runs in four games during their recently-concluded trip through Miami against the Marlins.

David Wright has 12 hits in his last 27 at bats.

Daniel Murphy is batting .298. His 92 hits are tied for most in the National League.

Curtis Granderson has a 31-game on-base streak. He’s batting .321 with a .453 OBP, three HR and nine RBI in his last 19 games. He hit .145 in April.

“We’re getting guys on base, we just haven’t been able to get any big hits,” Terry Collins said about life prior to his team’s recent outburst. “When you have big hits, your games look great. When you don’t, you’re not good.”

Collins has been batting Granderson in the leadoff spot, with Eric Young Jr. batting ninth, a move the manager said is likely to continue on nights when the team isn’t facing a left-handed starting pitcher.

Granderson has a .478 OBP in the five games he has hit leadoff.

Let's keep it going against the dirty A's!  If CY does not play well against the A's, I'm sure the last thing SA wants is to get beat twice by Billy Beane.  CY could be the scapegoat, not that it would bother me.

Granderson has the most experience as a leadoff guy and his numbers there this year are off the charts, leave him there, no excuses just leave him there until he proves he cant succeed there, EY batting 9th is much better then him batting 1st, much to inconsistent to be leading off but cant hurt you in the 9th spot and gives you all of the advantages if he gets on with Granderson leading off. Giving Kirk a start in each OF position once per week plus PH opportunities is plenty for right now with EY, Lagares and Granderson playing full time with each getting 1 game off per week.

The offense did not come alive in this series. During the first 3 games they scored 7 runs. It came alive yesterday, and only yesterday.

Batting EY Jr 9th is one of the few things TC is doing that I like, I think it makes the most use of his skills (as limited as they are), and if we are going to have him in the lineup it is the best use of his skills.  The problem is how often EY will be in the lineup after Legares gets back, he should be relegated to spot starts until/unless Kirk cools off significantly with Grandy/Legares getting full time opportunities.  Unfortunately what we will get is awkward random lineups and no continuity.

It's always great to stick it to the Marlins.  I'll never forget what they did to us at the end of the 2007 and 2008 seasons.  We owe them a ton of payback.

Must be the Terrible Towels.  Frankly, I was kinda fond of 'The Claw.'

Hard to believe that at this point of the season Murph has a higher BA OBP SLG and has as many HR as Wright does.

I guess to some degree TC's comment is accurate, if overstated.  The Mets are 22nd in OBP and 28th in average.  They are still 29th in OPS, but I feel like if they take CY out of the lineup, that'd shoot up dramatically.

It's going to take more than one game to convince me the offense has something going on. Also a big difference was Newenheis instead of Chris Young. If i never see Young in the lineup again it would suit me fine. Sometimes you cut your loses and move on. The Mets promised him at bats-They gave it to him and he hasn't delivered and looks like he never will. With Juan L on his way back and Kurt back-no need for CY to be in there or even on the team

Took 3 out of 4...signs of life.  Let's keep it going.

Nice to at least see they're capable of that. I heard a stat on the radio broadcast the other day, they had gone 2 weeks I think w/o scoring even 4 runs before Saturday? I mean seriously, talk about pathetic. This team needs another power bat in the middle of the lineup in the worst way possible....

18 runs in 4 games...with 11 in one.  Meaning 7 runs in the other 3 games combined....hardly representing a panacea for the offense.

Cheer hard for Milwaukee against Washington today.  A Nats loss puts us a mere 4 1/2 games out of first!

Striking Distance!!!

@foophilly  Trade Wright, move Murph to 3B and sign him long term for much cheaper than David, play EY and Flores at 2B the rest of the season.

@JasonMiles  Well you probably shouldn't watch the next 2 games then since the A's have LHP starting both games so CY will be in the lineup and Kirk won't

@Father Dooley The problem is everyone in the division is within striking distance. What's to make us think the Mets will be the team that actually puts a run together and wins it?

We have better pitching than at least three teams.

@citifield  If the Mets now must operate as a small market franchise with a very limited budget it doesn't make much fiscal sense to have that high of a percentage of their total payroll tied up long term into 1 player especially when he isn't a bonafide superstar MVP candidate at the start of his prime. And I'm not suggesting they just give Wright away of course.

But, if you look at a lineup that had no CY in it, and Lag and EY playing every day, we won games! And that was with Grandy swinging like a little girl. Now that we are going back to that..........

@Merrill Needham  Who says they're going to a lineup with no CY in it though?
