Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says that, while the Mets are willing to pay a portion of Johan Santana‘s salary, they have not received any trade inquires on him yet.
Santana will earn $25.5 million in 2013. He has a $25 million club option in 2014, with the team holding a $5.5 buyout.
Michael Baron, ContributorThat’s no surprise. Santana hasn’t pitched a full season since 2010, and he is owed a huge amount of money over the next year. The Mets will pay Santana $31 million in 2013 – it’s highly unlikely they pick up his 2014 option. But that doesn’t mean the Mets won’t try to sign Santana next winter. A lot will depend on where they are with their rotation and what Santana wants to do at the conclusion of this contract.
