Mets more likely to ride out bullpen through April

The Mets are more inclined to wait and see how things shake out in the big-league bullpen before making any additional roster moves, Sandy Alderson told reporters at Citi Field on Monday.

Alderson was encouraged by how his young pitchers threw in Spring Training.

He says, with one or two exceptions (specifically Noah Syndergaard), he hopes most of his Triple-A starting pitchers will get time working out of the bullpen in April to see how they may handle a possible role with the big-league team later this season.

People don't want a bullpen full of retreads. They also don't want to see a guy like Montero pitch out of the pen. What exactly do these people want? No retreads, no possible starters. Maybe people should look at the Cardinals and Dodgers. Two franchises that have done a very good job developing pitchers. The Cards start just about everyone in the pen. If we finally have quality arms, what is the problem with having them start out in the pen?

So my question is how Germen made it, and now they plan to bring in Farnsworthless. Wasn't there that reliever who had a pretty good showing in spring. Uh Socolovich, i thought he deserves more a shot, since he posted a 0 ERA in 8 games. but maybe it was because he was an NRI

They will screw up those young starters by trying them out in the bullpen.  Typical Mets...

That makes sense wth the Mets way of thinking, why get something done today i.e. trade/free agent when you can blow it off for another day if at all.

They'll have a record of 10 wins and 20 losses by May 1.

Seems to work out ok for the Cardinals and Dodgers. Martinez and Wacha. Going all the way back to Wainwright. Doesn't seem to be hurting them. The truth is all of these arms we have will not wind up as effecting starting pitchers. It's just the odds. If people want better arms in the pen, this is where it's going to come from.

@Joanie Yan Where do you think they are going to get those 3 extra games in?  They are only playing 27 games by May 1st.

@lindro88  Wacha probably isn't a very good example.  He Started much more than he relieved.

@10sfilter @Joanie Yan  That's how bad the Mets are - they lose games they Haven't even played! Lol

In all seriousness, sending young arms to the bullpen is not a precursor to disaster. The Cardinals have done it quite successfully in the past. It's a good way to get a young pitcher's feet wet, and allow the team to limit their innings.

Met fans are impatient, and deservedly so. But, it's the first week of the season. Let them play some more games before we pass judgment! I still think the team will hover around 500 all year long.

@William Gallego @10sfilter@Joanie Yan Do you trust this organization to handle things as adequately as the best organization in baseball?
