Bartolo Colon 1 (AP)

Mets met with agent for Bartolo Colon, deal unlikely

The Mets met Monday with Bartolo Colon‘s agent (Murti, Dec. 9). However, they are not likely players for him, given his price range (Martino, Dec. 9).

Colon is likely to sign a one-year contract worth between $7 and $10 million (Gammons, Dec. 9), though other reports indicate he may end up being offered a two-year deal (Renck, Dec. 9).

The Rockies are not interested, but the Orioles are (Heyman, Dec. 9).

Colon was 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts during 190 innings for the A’s last season.

He's too fat and past his prime. Don't need him. Remember how fat Mo Vaughn was? Get Garza.

I hope its just posturing by the Mets in order to get Arroyo. You shouldnt sign a ped guy at this age.

Big deal. I met with a Ferarri dealer, does not mean I am getting that car - Jesus - they report anything at that site.

Couldn't say Nelson Cruz. We have 4 OFs. I like Cabrera as a 2B but I don't want to give up too much for an aging semi power hitting MI who is probably on the juice. And I am not comfortable taking 2 more injury risk players aboard in Hart and Roberts. Colon would be nice but I want to build for the future a little.

What moves do you think the mets should make?

Good thing about those names Brian is only 40% were caught using PEDs.

Asdrubel Cabrera, Cory Hart, Mark Trumbo, Brian Roberts incentive deal,

I thought Colon would be the perfect guy to bring in.  I don't generally care about overpaying, or giving an extra year to a player if that is what it takes, but if it would take 20 million dollars to bring this guy in, I can see why they would pass.

I'm sure we'd all prefer Arroyo, but he's not coming over on a one year deal.

I'm sure if the Mets organization thought the young arms were ready they'd be in the big leagues, but obviously they are not, stop acting as managers, like you've all been watching them pitch,to be honest Wheeler wasn't ready last year neither, walked a ton of guys, location was not top notch.

I agree Patrick Hart, imagine his ERA in the National league? Like maybe 2.05 lol we could sure use him!

Philip Kossoy here...We are not acting like a "BIG MARKET FRANCHISE" folks!  How about we all tie up Sandy, Fred & Jeff and let them out after we sign Bartolo Colon, J.P. Howell, Eric O'Flaherty, trade for Matt Kemp, and bring in a real shortstop.  Just a thought...LOL

This teams budget is 85mil and we ALL know is a JOKE! The Mets will only sign small contracts after Granderson. It's time to start calling for Bud S. head for letting these owners stick it to the fans!!!

I hope they didn't spring for lunch. They would put them into the luxury area. lol Sports Memories

Fat, old, washed up, and a PED user - shouldn't the Yankees be interested?

Colon is a an excellent junk baller.  Yeah, he's old and fat.  So are a lot of us.  His arm is made of rubber and he gets guys out. He can give you a ton of innings and win 10+ games.  I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Really? $10-$12M is too much? At his age & with the numbers he's put up he is a good fit.

Ok, I'm doing my best to play devil's advocate and defend this team, but reading reports like these makes it hard to give them the benefit of the doubt. Seriously? A one year, $7-10M contract is too much for them? What do they expect? I thought they had another $17M to spend? What the hell is going on here?

I sure as hell hope there's more to this than meets the eye.

The Mets have lots of meetings. But they don't do anything. We should all meet this season outside of Citifield during game team and talk about 2015 meetings.

I don't mind if the FO doesn't spend much on pitching, as long as they spend it on quality position players (SS and 1B). We have two rotation spots open. Mejia should be ready to claim the 4th spot out of ST. Let Montero compete with guts like Degrom, and a bunch of veteran low risk signings, similar to Dice K and Harang (who I wouldn't mind having back) for the 5th spot.

Don't understand why the Mets would want Colon when Roberto Hernandez is cheaper and better.

Also, as we know fat pitchers can be good. See: Wells, Sabathia and the Babe.

Why on earth would they not do this?  Give him 2 years at 7 per.  This is a huge pickup for the rotation.  And a two year deal is not exactly a massive risk.  Time to poney up Sandy/Wilpons.

Imagine if Omar were still around and he tried to sign Colon.....

Bartolo Colon met with a cheeseburger. Bartolo Colon ate the cheeseburger. Bartolo Colon met with another cheeseburger. Guess how it turned out? All things being equal, I think we've got a good shot with him. Bartolo, have you heard of Shake shack?

So true. The sad sack Met fans routine is old. Some really need to educate themselves too. All you need is to do internet search.

@Max Denby he's going to get more than $7million.  38 year old Hiroki Kuroda just got $16million from the Yankees.  He's not going to sign for less than half of that.

Eric Koeller

@Max Denby his age and prospected PEDs use...he is 40, and considered to be well past his prime, but still puts up solid numbers...there gonna have to trail off sooner rather then later...but i do think he would be a decent investment...prob wouldent give him a 2 year deal
