The Mets have set a 180-185 innings pitched limit this season for rookie RHP Jacob deGrom.
However, they are open to extending him deeper in to the season if they end up in a serious bid for a playoff spot, Sandy Alderson said on SNY during Friday’s game.
That said, he added, the decision would largely depend on how deGrom is performing and feeling at the time.
“The nice thing is that we do have some other guys we can plug in there,” he added.
DeGrom was named co-National League Player of the Week the final week of July, during which he was 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA.
He is 5-5 with a 2.79 ERA in 14 starts for the Mets this season, while striking out 83 batters in 87 innings.
