Mets make minor league deal

The Mets have traded Double-A catcher Blake Forsythe to the Oakland Athletics for future consideration.

Forsythe was the Mets third round pick in 2010. He hit .192 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI in 88 games for the Binghamton Mets last season.

Just heard over the radio that it’s going to be Beane himself. Something about unfinished business.

I guess the wilpons needed some cash to pay some credit card bills so they traded a minor league catcher for some cash.

Sandy made a trade, no can't be, are you sure. Oh wait, it was a B.S. trade. Wow, for a second there I thought he was acting like a GM.

I hear the future consideration is a hall of fame player...he's dead, of course, but he is a hall of famer.

Does this Future Considerations guy play 1st Base or Short Stop? I couldn't find his stats anywhere.

Great trade Sandy! Now we can afford a new SS and 1Bman!

Third-round pick? Who scouted this zero?

Future consideration was the last piece the Mets were missing to be a championship team!

Future considerations? I see a trade in the future with the A's. Cespedes perhaps?

@metsblog Travis d'Arnaud was apparently blocking his path to being a sub-Mendoza Line-hitting catcher in the majors

Colon wasn't a trade. CYoung wasn't a trade. He traded with SF for Wheeler, Colorado for EY2, Toronto for Thor and D'Arnaud...

@eric88 Yeah, I wish we didn't have Wheeler, D'Arnaud, and Syndergaard, too.  He is so bad at trades.

@Christopher Masiello Hey, that would imply that these guys were doing their jobs competently. Stop thinking rationally--it's the Mets and this was the promised 2014 contention year.

@hankypanky  Well, they did draft Harvey in the first round, so that really (potentially based on recovery) makes the entire draft.  They also drafted DeGrom in the 9th, so not a terrible last drat for Minaya.

Now, Alderson's first draft the next year netted Nimmo, Fuler, Mazoni, Leathersich.  So at this point, nothing useful.  2012, dreck.  Maybe Plawecki turns into something.

Last year, D. Smith looks good, but long way to go.  More than likely, nothing else interesting surprising anyone from that draft.

All in all, Alderson, et al are subpar with the draft.

Thank you for that info. It was useful.

Would wait on nimmo. Still early in is career that hand injury really hurt his development. But through first two weeks, small sample, he is killing it in st lucie. Most scouts see him as a break player this year. 2012 cecinni sucked. Plawecki saves him. Plaawecki can be mlb catcher. Better than thole.

As a former and current scout, Minaya was and is better at recognizing talent than Alderson.

And where would you play him?? Short centerfield?

@hashburry @Brandon Hillman  There was talk at the time he could go in the 2nd round.  If the mets really didn't want to risk him falling before they could grab him... and REALLY liked him (obviously) - they'd do what they did.  Its' too bad you can't trade draft picks in the majors unlike most sports.

@Brandon Hillman  Obviously there is still upside with Nimmo.  With some 20/20 hindsight, it is easy to think they could have gotten him later in the draft as no one had ever mentioned the kid as a high draft pick.  In a perfect world, they take Fernandez instead of the Marlins (get Nimmo in the second or third round) and really have a killer rotation in the making.
