The Mets optioned LHP Josh Edgin to the minors on Monday.

They also optioned LHP Steven Matz, RHP Erik Goeddel, infielder Wilfredo Tovar and outfielder Cesar Puello.

The team reassigned LHP Jack Leathersich, RHP John Church, RHP Logan Verrett, LHP Adam Kolarek, RHP Chasen Bradford, catcher Kevin Plawecki, infielder Danny Muno, infielder Dustin Lawley, outfielder Brandon Nimmo and outfielder Cory Vaughn to minor league camp.

I really think they should have given Puello a closer look, he was hitting like a true middle of the order bat, for all we know he could go 30/30 this season, yeah yeah I know ever the optimist

There goes our offense. All the scrubbies who staged those late inning rallies after the 1st string would get 3 hits just went bye-bye. So the various Youngs & Wright & Grandy & Satin & d'A are gonna have to figure it out by themselves, so we don't waste the really good pitching we've gotten (until today, that is).

Edgin didn't look good but it's still so early, I was very surprised.  There's not many lefty alternatives in camp.  I wonder if they'll give Dana Eveland a look since they've got him over in minor league camp.  I mean, suppose Rice or Lannan go down with injury, what do you do?  Bring back Byrdak?  I would, I love Byrdak.

Puello should be on the major league squad by June. He is going to hit balls to Lake Tahoe in Triple A.

EDGIN LOOKS LAZY...... A KICK IN THE REAR END IS NEEDED

From a offensive stand point, I liked what I seen from Plawecki, Muno and Puello.

I am glad Syndergaard is staying for a little longer. Maybe we might actually get to see him pitch, unlike the Spring so far.

The bad news about this list is that Plawecki was sent out. I was hoping he would be part of a package going to Arizona for a shortstop. AZ has said that their main need is a young catcher.

Edgin deserved to be cut.  He has not looked good at all.

Matz looked good out there.  I was hoping to see him stick around a little longer

I think this locks Lannan into the BP with Rice.

And IMO that is a good thing for this team.

That does not mean that much.  They can still scout Plawecki,  just not with the Mets. I think the Mariners are a better match though for the Mets based on corresponding needs.

The Mets have basically gone with one lefty in the pen since Darren Oliver left.  There's certainly no guarantee they go with 2 now.

@Opti-Mets-tic  Keep in mind Lannan is not a lefty specialist.  In fact, lefties hit him harder than righties and at an over .300 clip.  I do not think the removal of Edgin has anything to do with Lannan.  Lannan  is ticketed to start.

@Opti-Mets-tic  I would not count on it.  I still think Lannan is starting with Mejia in the pen.  Dice - K will get cut. Lannan has the pest pedigree in being an innings eater and I do not think the Mets think Mejia's body can handle starting every 5th day.
