Terry Collins 8 (Baron)

Mets look tired, Murphy & Wright will get a break soon

The Mets have lost to two straight games to the Cubs, who have the worst record in the NL, and who have not won a series this season.

The two teams play the final game of their current three-game series this evening at Wrigley Field.

“I think some of it is a residue of what we went through in Philly,” Terry Collins said after the loss. “I just think sometimes you go through playing all those innings in all those days the way we did, we’ve got to find some energy somewhere.”

The Mets won four of five in Philadelphia this past weekend, but played 48 innings in four days.

Collins said he will likely give Daniel Murphy the day off Wednesday. He has started 57 straight games since opening the season on paternity leave.

David Wright is expected to get a day off during the team’s trip to San Francisco.

Davey Johnson would have used all 25 guys more and all would be less tired and more fresh. Wally will do it too if he gets a chance.

Sorry if I don't feel for these professional athletes who instead of playing 3 hours - played for 5 hours.  Enough Collins with the excuses - you act like they're all a member of the Golden Girls.  Just because you are the oldest manager in the game don't project your tiredness onto your players.

I am tired of them: watching the first pitch go by when its right down the middle;  not swinging the bat if the ball is 1 cm off the plate; being behind in the count every at bat (see above); and not being able to get the ball out of the infield with the bases loaded and no one out. Other than that, I'm good.

Tired is a terrible excuse Terry, you should know better.  Second why would you give Wright a day off against the best team in baseball as opposed to the lowly Cubs?  This guy is a terrible manager.

This is total BS. Tired? That's the excuse for totally blowing an opportunity to make hay after the Phillies series? Where's the killer instinct from a team that is desperate for relevancy? I thought these guys "played hard for Terry." There is absolutely no excuse for losing this series. Do you really think Backman would have allowed this let down? Let's face it folks, this is nothing more than an expansion team.

How many times is TC gonna say that they need the rest?  Just rest them already and quit flapping your gums Terry!

They look tired, I'm tired of them. I have been a Met fan since day one and I'm tired of them losing year after year. The Wilpon's don't care if the Met's win or lose as long as the fanscome in or they sell enough stuff. Well after 52 yrs. I'm going to root for another team and buy their shirts and stuff, maybe the Yankees'SORRY but I had it wih these loser.

I wonder how tired they'd be if they were at the top of the division (by some miracle) and on a hot streak.

Here's a question to ask a guy like Keith. Are they tired because they played a lot of innings in Philly or is it because of the plane travel? Or, both?

The issues in Chi town, are the same issues they have had all year. It's not from being tired it's from inability. Wright and Murphy were given spring training off to avoid being tired. So tired of excuses, the umps , the plane, the long games.

Funny how the players are tired. I have noticed that the fans are tired too. They are tired of excuses and losing baseball.

I get DW and Murph being tired, but the rest of this crew gets time off because they are platooned. They are platooned (e.g. Leftie/rightie, catcher) and those make sense. BUT how can fielding, striking out and sitting on the bench wating to strike out.

Excuses are like _holes, everyone has one. Let it go TC...let it go.

Funny how a bullpen gets tired when they have to pitch half the game every night bc TC gets nervous in the 4th inning.

How many LOB last night? Seemed like everytime i looked up there were plenty on if not bases loaded. I guess they werent to tired to get on, they were just to tired to go the entire 360 feet home. Mike Garrison was right on, not delivering in rbi spots with risp wasnt because of tired, its because of stink....

Terry is trying to deflect, probably to protect his own neck. When ur team has no talent, the decent guys play a lot... Get em a day here or there but ultimately it doesnt matter. Wright has to play everyday and so does murphy. The rest of the team is too untalented for them not to. Carnival hands has to raise his tiny paw and ask sandy and the rest of his bosses for a little more talent. If they dont spend some, terry will be using those little mitts to fill out unemployment forms because he aint getting a job anywhere else. He shoukd call willie and jerry and they can start a jugband or puppet show.

Cubs have won a 3 game series with STL May 2-4, also a 3 game series with MIL May 16-18.

I just thought I checked for chuckles.

maybe playing all his starters the day after a 14 inning game was not a great idea?

Why did they have to add the 5th game In philly? Couldn't they have waited and taken the off day

Hmm - will the front office pay ME millions to hit under .200 (guaranteed!), travel around the country, and play baseball every night?  Because I can promise you I would never, ever look tired - not even after a doubleheader. #dreamjob

Terry...sigh...anyone paying attention to the Mets this season knows that the 2 guys who have played the most innings for you so far this year, are tired.  We know, you know, they know.  So when are you going to actually DO something about it?  It's real simple.."Murph, David...i'm gonna give you guys a blow today, and get Wilmer and Campbell some ABs"

I didn't realize the Mets are the only team that plays baseball.

Tired???  You've gotta be kidding. These are professional young athletes making millions of dollars a year playing baseball. This is just another way of saying we are just not that good. Losing to the Cubs is embarrassing and again just exposes the team's weaknesses. When will ownership wake the F up already. Is it already "wait til next season"  This is a pathetic situation and only getting worse.

Just when you think the excuses can't get more pathetic (Citifield, booing fans, honest broadcasters) we get this?  So lame.

When I hear Terry pull this tired BS year after year, it really makes me think this team should hire Wally.

Mike Garrison

If they were "tired" they'd be getting shut out on two hits. Being tired has nothing to do with leaving men on base, and not producing with the bases loaded. That's why they've lost these two games.

What kind of manager constantly makes excuses? A loser. Wah, we're tired. Give me a break.

I've been tired for 5 years now. And unfortunately we don't get the occasional Monday or Thursday off from being awful, we suffer 365 days a year.

DON'T BE SLOPPY

"Losing" makes you tired. "Winning" energizes you to keep "Winning"

This team is so unmotivated because that clubhouse knows this is all they got and the goal is to stay afloat for as long as they can.

Instead of Collins feeding into it he should tell the pansies to man up....they get paid enough.   High school kids could play better.   The team is off monday so what is Murphy doing?....he's going to the White House for something to do with Father's Day.  If he's that tired he should stay home and rest.    They're all full of excuses.  They blame everything but themselves.  They need to fire Sandy ...every signing over the winter was terrible.

Always excuses..Every team has to deal with adversities? It's the teams that overcome these things that are the consistent teams and the Mets are a below to 500 team simply put. As much as i keep getting my hopes up when they start stringing some games together? they end up losing 5 out of 7 and always seem to be right back where they started, below 500. or just at that mark. When will the good ol' days return for us?

I'll take Scott Rice's 500k to go in a give up one hit then come out. Ill do it every game if they need.

@Zach Goeringer And your job requires you to do something athletic right? A little perspective maybe? He's saying they are tired so that's creating some of the bad play.  If you are tired at work you don't perform well too.  You just don't have cameras and fans watching you.  Its a reality of being human.

kefhrny17

Well according to Metsblog (who are always right) they've yet to win a series.

No they haven't won a series. This was their first series win.

The difference is if he's tired, he gets fired. If GRANDY says he's tired, he gets time off

Zach Goeringer

@specialk @Zach Goeringer A little perspective? ok. These players get paid at minimum 10 times more than I will make this year to play for 3 hours a day for most of which they are standing still. During the 85% time that they are standing idle, a player like Wright will make about a hundred thousand dollars during those 3 hours. I get that they get aches and pains and fatigue but you know what, there are 29 other teams on the same playing field experiencing the same things. I've been a fan way to long to not see through the endless excuses this team makes for losing and refusing to put a winning product on the field. You want to blame our woes on Murphy needing a nap be my guest.

@Mike Garrison I don't know what to tell you, you're wrong.
