Mets talk with agent for Cesar Izturis

The Mets met Tuesday with the agent for Cesar Izturis (Lennon, Dec. 10), who they view as a possible back-up infielder (Puma, Dec. 9).

Izturis, 33, is coming off 63 games in 2013, where he hit .209 with a .259 OBP and .530 OPS. Of hits 27 hits, eight went for extra bases with 11 RBI.

He hasn’t played in 100 games since 2010 with Baltimore.

We were too cheap last year to carry on the grand tradition of Miguel Cairo, Damion Easley, Alex Cora and Ronny Cedeno...but Izturis could easily pick up the baton...

Philip Kossoy here...ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!  Why not call Rey Ordonez up and see if he's interested in making a comeback.  I bet he could out hit Izturis at this point.  Makes Tejada look like a young Gary Templeton!

Trash!!  The Diamondbacks are stacked and can't play them all.  A GOOD GM and front office would see what it would take to pry one of them away which is better than overpaying for Drew or signing offensive inept players who are on the decline.  If you can't match up team to team search for a third and use your bullets.  Omar despite his stupid contracts, was good at trading in garbage for quality.  Come on "super" think tank front office.

The Mets seem hell bent on moving downward or lateral when it comes to the short stop position seemingly because they just don't want to pay Drew.  With that said Drew compared to everything else we have at the shortstop position and I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Mets uniform for the right price.

Where is Mr. Tovar and why is he not capable of the same thing for less?

Izturis doesn't sound like a SS upgrade to me, especially at 33 yrs old. And, he has not played a complete season since 2010. Tejada, get your glove on and take the field.
