Mets interview Don Long for hitting coach

According to the New York Post, Don Long interviewed to be the Mets hitting coach today.

Long had been the hitting coach for Pittsburgh the past three seasons, prior to which he worked for the Phillies and Angels.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York says, ‘Long is credited with helping Jason Bay,’ who actually recommended Long be interviewed for the job.

Yesterday, Terry Collins told reporters that Andy Van Slyke interviewed for the position earlier in the day.

By the way, check out this interview Van Slyke did with Yahoo! Sports back at the start of last season.
