Mets interested in signing Kip Wells to a minor league contract

The Mets are interested in signing RHP Kip Wells to a minor league contract, reports Evan Drellich of MLB.com.

Wells auditioned for the Mets during Spring Training last year, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Wells, who turns 36 in April, went 2-4 with a 4.58 ERA in seven starts with the Padres in 2012.

In 12 seasons, Wells is 69-103 with a 4.71 ERA in 296 games and 219 starts. He’s allowed 635 walks and 151 home runs while striking out 963 in 1338 1/3 big league innings.
