Mets’ home pinstripes is third-worst performing jersey in MLB

The Mets have played .235 baseball in their home pinstriped jersey, the third-worst record in MLB for any jersey (Sportslogos.net).

The team has won only four games all year while sporting the outfit, and has lost 13 games in it. The only two jerseys that have accumulated worse records are the Pirates’ road jersey (3-13, .188) and the Twins’ road jersey (4-15, .211).

They have an 8-5 record in the home whites and a 6-3 record in the home blues.

So what!!! And which undergarment performs better to many stats

The Mets should step up and ban those ugly, navy blue pinstripes forever. Whose idea was it to blend in a Yankee uniform element in the first place?

Even the very appearance of articles like this one support the desperate pipe dream of Wilpon's Marketing Department and 15-yr-old fan boys everywhere.

A team's uni is its soul & overall branding. The best teams in any sport wear their colors proudly their entire history, whether they're currently winning championships or stinking up the joint. Most teams eventually spend time at both of those extremes, anyway -- but their unis stay the same and are a source of constant pride for the player and the fan base.

Ask Yankee, Cardinal, Cub, Red Sox, Bruin, Canadian, Giants, Cowboys, Spurs and Celtics teams and their fans.

Sure they can sport the alternate jersey on occasion. But they don't mess with the core uni.

You are who you are.

The Mets uni -- Wilpon's Dodger fetish notwithstanding -- is blue pinstripes with the blue cap with the single orange line NY.

The home whites look like some sort of Ice Cream Man outfit, can we please burn those?  It's not the pinstripes making us lose, it's the fact we can't afford to employ a greater percentage of good players than teams we play against.  It's math.

I liked the first Los Mets jersey from 2011

Umm, I'm pretty sure that there's a better than 50% chance they'd lose no matter what uni they where.

better than the "los mets" jerseys and if i am correct have we ever won a game in those jerseys?

and no that does not mean i hate any particular ethnicity, i love teams that create days to celebrate different cultures, but feel the los mets jerseys is the wrong way to go about it

if we didn't have some new jersey everyday ( blue , camo, )  we would have more wins in the classic pinstripes.

This is stupid... it the ownership that'making them lose. They need a better shortstop and outfield. They have great farm team. we just need better bats

Should just keep it like the 1986 mets colors and add the original jerseys as well

I like the Original white and blue pinstripes, but the cream pinstripes are just weird to me

Bring back the snow white w/ blue pinstripe and Mets script for home and the grey New York jersey for the Road. I'm ok with the blue alternates but for the love of everything PLEASE get rid of the grey on the blue shirts, Just blue shirt and Orange letters, there's NO need for any grey.

ok I'm done haha

This is a serious post?  Let's take a 100 game sample, pick out a random few games and pretend there's some meaning in there.

Those are the home uniforms they should wear!

Oh now I get it! It's an epiphany for me. It's not the human beings in the uniform who are trying to run, hit, catch and throw it's the uniform itself. Shades of Claude Rains?

when you see pin stripes you think the Yankees not the Mets. i love the Black Jersey and i have many of them. i also just bought a Royal Blue one. i do not own any White ones but i do like them alot. it does not surprise me the pinstripes are the worst selling jersey. what Met fan wants some dumb Yankee fans yelling at them lets go Yankees when they see the pin stripes.

The Yankees have arguably the simplest, dullest uniforms in professional sports.  They don't seem to have any problems selling crap.  The problem with the Mets is that they have absolutely no street cred.  None, zero, zilch.  No sex appeal, no swag, no edge, no buzz, nothing.  If the Yankees are the 1 Oak Club, the Mets are the food court at the mall. There is absolutely nothing cool, hip, trendy, or even marginally interesting to the non-die hard about the Mets.  And it's not because they don't wear black, they tried that, didn't help much. It's because they're a bad baseball team with a lineup dominated with ballplayers with the personality and skillset of a wet shower curtain.

If you ask the MLBPA, they will tell you emphatically that it is the name and/or number on the back that sells the jersey, and the stats seem to bare that out.  If you have players the kids dig, you sell swag.  Period.

Now we know why they have struggled. And here I thought it was a lack of talent.

Can't believe people actually spend time keeping track of this stuff.  That being said, this just shows that the Mets have struggled at home.  I think they have done better as of late but they certainly perform better while on the road.

I usually hate all of these alternate uniforms. They're just lame way to get more money out of the fans. That being said, the only one that I have liked in decades is the dark blue one with Mr. Met on them that they wore a few times this year. Kinda nice.

I never liked the black ones. We're not the Raiders

Los Mets - Nos Mets

Plain white without stripes - maybe if I'm ordering an ice cream sundae

Orange jerseys - sure, you can were them for hunting and traffic duty

I actually left out one "acceptable" option - St. Patrick's day Green hats are awesome.

Thats great Matt.....buy into Sandy's philosophy. Duda couldnt be the starting first baseman on any other team in baseball....unless u count minor leagues. They will get u to believe he is the future and pass on a true player. Then duda will hit 20 hrs and bat .230 next year. He is mediocre and to win you have to be better than mediocre.

I'm not sure i want to see a losing team wear the 80's stripes; it's defecating on history.  I'd wait until they dominate before unleashing the fire stripes... only winners get those.

@happy hank We've had stripes for 50 years... do the hats remind you of the New York Giants?  I dig the original uniform.

People buy the black jersey because if you have to wear a brand on your body, it might as well be toned down.  The Yankee jersey has that classy NY on the side and black in the colors, we're polarizing with blue and orange, so the black calms it. If I ever wear a cap, it's the black one.

I don't want the team to wear it at all... it's not their uniforms.  They can sell it in the stores though... seriously, I've seen Yankee stuff that they don't wear in the field. Why do they need to sell what they wear to us to wear on the street??

We're not playing baseball in it.

@Macacawitz This is obvious to anyone but our crack marketing team.  They're too busy worrying about Sleepovers, Huey Lewis/Montreal Expos Appreciation Day and Fireman/Thug/Greek Heritage combo night.

They couldn't be cool in a freezer.

@Art Dockerty Pause. Duda is on pace this to hit around .270 with 25-30 homeruns and drive in 90-100 runs. Since when is that mediocre? Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles didn't come out of his shell until last season when he belted 53 homers at age 27, and before that he was relatively mediocre. 2012 was a good year for Davis as well and is around what Duda could realistically do this season. Duda could be the starting first basemen on the on more than half the teams in this league. Also, his fielding has been great, not just because of the range he has showed but because Chris Davis and him are tied with best fielding percentage among qualified first basemen. They both only committed 2 errors all year. Stop commenting.

Will Hammerstein

@qualcomm of course! the orange logo is SUPPOSED to remind you of the NY Giants and the royal blue the Brooklyn Dodgers. Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to remind anyone of the Y team???

qualcomm

@Macacawitz Also, ownership constantly kneels before any authority figure in MLB; they are the Jerry Mathers of baseball. The Yankees defy the luxury tax, brashly do what they want and the Mets end up with a Vegas farm team, Beer Money, a network that has more Jets coverage than Mets coverage and a huge blue 42 in an entrance way tribute to another team.

We celebrate Chipper Jones, Rivera, Jeter (He's got an edge), anyone but our own guys. I'm surprised they didn't retire Chipper's number.

@Art Dockerty hmmmmm lets see.  he is ranked 49th as a first baseman in all of baseball.  In the NL he is 22 and behind Ike davis..  That list was composed by 5 MLB experts on 5/28/14.  Also, pick someone besides Chris Davis to compare him to.say Ryan Howard (#30).  Would you start Duda over Howard?  Think not.  Now i m not talking long term, I am talking this year, right now.  How about Adam LaRoche (#35).  This he could start ahead of him in Washington

So yeah, they 'aint cool. We all wish we could fix it, many of us probably could and would do it for nothing, but you can't help those who don't want to be helped.

@Art Dockerty I wonder where he would be if that list was created tomorrow and not 2 months ago.
