Mets haven’t contacted Tim Byrdak this winter

Free agent LHP Tim Byrdak recently said on Twitter the Mets have not yet contacted him about a possible return.

Byrdak missed the end of the 2012 season and most of the 2013 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn capsule in his left shoulder. He made eight appearances for the Mets last September, and allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Byrdak didn’t look great when he was promoted in September. He lacked life on his fastball and struggled to get lefties out, which is his primary responsibility. He’s 40, so it’s not clear he has much left in the tank. Still, it might be a good idea for the Mets to take one more look at Byrdak this spring, considering they don’t have an very much experience from the left side in the bullpen right now.

I liked Rice a lot last year and I wouldn't mind seeing Edgin again, I'm very okay with those guys.

Last time I saw Byrdak pitch, he looked more like an insurance salesman than a major league pitcher.  Good luck in the insurance biz, Tim.

The Mets haven't contacted lots of players, should I expect posts on all of them? Contact a player that can improve our team, I think Jamie Moyers grandfather may still stretch it out.

Time to turn the page.  I still remember when Harvey first came up he was being interviewed LIVE on television and Byrdak walked right up to him and welcomed him to the team by kissing him on the cheek.  Weird and awkward.  Just like Turner it's time to weed out the rest of the clowns.

The Mets have RIce and Edgin in the bullpen , both more reliable than Byrdak at this point.  And  Leatherstich and Kolarek as in AAA as fall back options.

I always find these posts hilarious. "it’s not clear he has much left in the tank" but take another look anyway. Hey, Michael, who SHOULDN'T we be looking at?  Players in wheelchairs? Senior citizens? Taking another look is the Omar Minaya strategy--which delivered gems like El Duque. It's better to put a AA player out there.

It will be a great day when the Mets' bullpen features their seven best relievers, not the five best and two who throw lefty.

Edgin killed it last year. He's reliable.

And I should care for what reason?

I'll bet they have not contacted Don Cardwell or Dr Ron Taylor about returning either? Why is this a story? Is General Francisco Franco still dead?
