Free agent LHP Tim Byrdak recently said on Twitter the Mets have not yet contacted him about a possible return.
Byrdak missed the end of the 2012 season and most of the 2013 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn capsule in his left shoulder. He made eight appearances for the Mets last September, and allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings.
Michael Baron, ContributorByrdak didn’t look great when he was promoted in September. He lacked life on his fastball and struggled to get lefties out, which is his primary responsibility. He’s 40, so it’s not clear he has much left in the tank. Still, it might be a good idea for the Mets to take one more look at Byrdak this spring, considering they don’t have an very much experience from the left side in the bullpen right now.
