The Mets have shown interest in free-agent LHP John Lannan, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Sherman says their interest in Lannan could be a result of possibly trading R.A. Dickey.
Lannan was non-tendered by the Nationals on Friday. He went 4-1 with a 4.13 ERA in six starts for the Nationals in 2012.
Earlier this year, the Mets had interest in acquiring Lannan from the Nationals when they demoted him from their rotation, according to CBS Sports.
Michael Baron, MetsBlog.com:
Nov. 30: The Mets could be interested in Lannan (who is a New York native) if they end up dealing Dickey or Jon Niese. Lannan lost his job in Washington last Spring when they acquired Gio Gonzalez and Edwin Jackson. He doesn’t throw hard and relies primarily on a fastball and sinker. But, he has always been a solid and durable back-of-the-rotation pitcher, and – if a need develops – Lannan can be a low cost solution as the Mets wait for Zack Wheeler.
