Matt Harvey, Johan Santana, Scott Rice, Ike Davis, Josh Edgin, Jeremy Hefner, Jenrry Mejia and Bobby Parnell all must be activated from the 60-day disabled no later than five days after the end of the World Series.
In addition, minor leaguers Jacob deGrom, Jeff Walters, Greg Peavey, Cory Vaughn and Steven Matz all need to be added to the 40-man roster by November 20 to avoid being exposed to the Rule 5 draft.
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York says the Mets could make room on the roster by cutting Jordany Valdespin, Greg Burke, Scott Atchison, Robert Carson, Sean Henn, Zach Lutz, Mike Baxter, Andrew Brown and Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

I was surprised the Mets didn’t cut Valdespin when he was taken off the restricted list in September. Given everything that has happened with him, from the behavioral problems to the PED suspension, I can’t see how he survives this roster purge.
On the other hand, I’d be surprised if the Mets cut Atchison. He dealt with more elbow problems this year and was up and down when he pitched, but he’s a good presence with a lot of experience, which Sandy Alderson should see as valuable.
As for the other first group of players Rubin mentioned, most are basically fringe players at this point and the Mets pretty much know what they have in all of them going forward. It would be an easy decision to designate any one of them for assignment to make room for someone else, since they will probably pass through waivers and stay in the organization anyway, assuming they don’t elect free agency.
