Mets call up Satin, Goeddel, Centeno and Alvarez

The Mets will promote Triple-A 1B-3B Josh Satin and RHP Erik Goeddel and Double-A C Juan Centeno LHP Dario Alvarez as MLB rosters expand to include all players on the 40-man roster starting September 1.

Satin hit .289 with nine homers and 49 RBI in 100 at-bats with Las Vegas, where the Mets sent him after he hit .107 in 28 at-bats to start the major league season. Last year, Satin hit .279 with three homers in 75 games with the Mets. Goeddel,  making his major league debut in his fifth season in the Mets organization, was 3-2 with a 5.37 ERA and three holds at Vegas.

Ceteno started the season at Las Vegas,  where he spent most of last season, and was called up in May when Travis d’Arnaud went on the DL.  He had five hits in 18 at-bats in the majors before being sent back to Las Vegas.  He hit .291 with a homer and 17 RB in 53 games with Vegas, and .286 with no homers and eight RBI in 21 games with Binghamton. Ceteno, who also was called up to the majors last September, is regarded by some as the best defensive catcher in the organization.

Alvarez, 25, made his minor league debut in 2007  in the Phillies organization, but left professional baseball after three seasons. He returned in 2013 with Brooklyn. This season, he was 7-1 with a 1.32 ERA at Class A Savannah and a combined 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in nine outings at St. Lucie and Binghamton.

Well, on the bright side they didn't call-up Abreu, Lanaan and Quintanilla.

I think the Mets must have combed their farm system to find the 4 most boring players possible to call up.  At least we got Herrera up.

The Taylor Teagarden countdown has become. About time he was removed from the 40. Time to clean up some of the dead wood on the 40 man.

I'm interested in what Alvarez will do here in the bigs. The other players not so much.

Why did Alvarez leave baseball for three years? That seems really odd. Its not like he was terrible in the minors either. He had ok stats.

centano hits as well as current team.loved satin last year. But its not last year. Just feels that way.

Goeddels era is impressive. Wish Rice was back.

Did satin really have 49 RBIs in 100 at bats???Methinks typo.

Mets need new owners, a new GM and a new manager or 2015 is going to look just like the last six years.

With Dice K on the shelf, there is a chance we see Thor get a few starts as part of a 6 man rotation.

Crazy Dragon

I set out from Reno I was trailed by 20 men

Didn't get to sleep last night till the mornin came around

I set out runnin but I take my time friend of the devil is a friend of mine

I get home before daylight just might get some sleep tonight

I ran into the Devil babe he loaned me 20 bills

Spent the night in Utah in a cave up in the hills

I set out runnin but I take my time friend of the devil is a friend of mine

I get home before daylight just might get some sleep tonight

Went down to the levee but the Devil caught me there

Took my 20 dollar bill and vanished in the air

The way Collins has mismanaged our entire pitching staff, especially our bullpen, we will be needing everyone up cause everyone is going down with some sort of arm injury.  I am surprised that Torres's and Familia's arm didn't fall off already!

Paging Andrew Brown.  Andrew Brown to the minor league free agent table.  Mr. Brown, your 15 minutes in New York seem to be up.

Listen up here because I am irate that these Mets did not call up Abraham "the snoring Eskimo" Ilgauskus. How did this slip through the cracks? The "snoring Eskimo" was batting a ridiculous .005 with 4 rbis, 99 stolen bases, negative 14 cooler ranch sunflower seeds and a smooth 445.91 era. If Abraham wasn't called up than why was Josh "inappropriate DVD destroyer" Satin called up. If I'm not mistaken Josh is actually a mutated whole wheat nutrigrain bar disguised as a pro baseball man? I think that's true so Sandy "I enjoy Miley Sirus covers performed by Smashmouth" Alderson should reveal Josh Satin's true identity. Maybe he can hire Janet Jackson to spy on Joshy Poo putting on his baseball player disguise over his real (yet nutritious) nutrigrain body. However, I believe Janet will become very hungry. Subsequently, she will not be able to resist that delicious and healthy snack, rendering Janet Jackson useless in uncovering "the inappropriate DVD destroyer's actual identity. Extremely reminscient of the film Bad Boys 2 as Marshal Falk decides to quit his job as a milk man to become a soldier in the lady bug army as they try to eliminate their enemy foes, the locksmiths live in the Bronx, and in all honesty, are just great hardworking gentlemen. The locksmiths see Marshall Falk dressed as a lady bug holding a plastic laser beam he ordered from Toys R Us. They decide to call his grandma from the chunky soup commercials and check him into a kindergarten class where he can learn to practice his handstands in a more appropriate manner. What an inspiring masterpiece!! 5 out of 5 stars!!!

It was 49 RBI in 100 games (374 at bats).

@jojo218 Pretty sure Harvey couldn't have been that bored in Vegas since he pitched in Buffalo.

@jojo218

You want the Mets to all of a sudden try to win? Eh, let's just call him up next year when the season's over.

thecasuaLGM
thecasuaLGM

@luckylou Wally probably wanted to keep him for the PCL playoffs. And Dykstra plays 1B, and bats left handed. If he was right handed maybe it would make sense but you don't take ABs away from Duda especially for a 27 yr old career minor leaguer.

Kevin VanTassell

Vegas and Binghamton both in the playoffs, why take their best players for a team out of any playoff position?

Marty Coe

Yea I was just thinking the same thing that the 51s are in the hunt for a title again so you weren't going to see a really good prospect who could help them more come up. But don't worry after wslly wins the pcl and gets named the manager of the mets next year he'll bring a few of them with him lol

luckylou

I agree with the playoff angle but this guy deserves a chance . Besides Dykstra, there are others who deserve a look over Satin imo.

Tarheel11

@Kevin VanTassell Because we want a .187 hitter to pinch hit? Whose strike outs are in Adam Dunn, Mark Reynolds territory with just a little less power?

@bingmets You sure? This guys seems to be having a hell of a lot more fun than the rest of us miserable lunatics

thecasuaLGM
thecasuaLGM

@luckylou I'm not going to say he doesn't deserve a chance. I am just saying that there is no place for him to play right now. Duda is looking like he will hit 30+ HRs in his first full season without Davis looking over his shoulder or having to embarrass himself in LF just to get ABs. Duda has earned the chance to finish the season where he started and honestly I would prefer to see what Duda's power potential really is especially going into 2015. I can't see why satin is here other than hit splits vs LHP so maybe a pinch hitter here and there. but it seems like Dykstra is just the odd man out since 1B is no longer the question mark it was in the spring

thecasuaLGM
thecasuaLGM

@matmil I think if Collins stepped up to the Mic for his post game press conference tomorrow and recited this with a straight face and when finished simply asks "questions?" I would probably stop hating him for the rest of the season. The day after that I will of course call for his head again.
