Mets, Byrdak agree to contract extension

After today’s 7-5 win over the Braves, the Mets announced they have agreed to a one year contract extension for Tim Byrdak.

“Going into last offseason we really didn’t have lefties that we felt we could count on,” Sandy Alderson said after Sunday’s game. “This year, going into the offseason we will have two – Tim and Daniel Herrera. So that’s a positive step forward for us…It’s not typical for us to extend players late in the season like this, but he wanted to come back and we were happy to reach an agreement with him…”

According to Mike Silva of NY Baseball Digest, the Mets are close to a contract extension with LHP Tim Byrdak.

This morning at Turner Field, Sandy Alderson confirmed the Mets were in negotiations with Byrdak, saying an extension was “likely”.
