The Mets today announced the launch of the R.A. Dickey 3-Pack ticket offer, providing fans the opportunity to cheer on the pitcher tomorrow night and for the rest of the season in his quest to win 20 games and the National League Cy Young Award.
Dickey looks for win 19 against the Nationals tomorrow night at Citi Field.
According to the team press release:
“Fans must pick up their tickets at the ballpark. They will receive a ticket for tomorrow night’s game and two vouchers that can be redeemed for any of the remaining Mets home games. With the team playing 13 of its next 16 games at home and Dickey’s next start scheduled for tomorrow night, there is a high likelihood that his next three starts will all be during home games at Citi Field.”
Dickey is the first Mets pitcher to reach 18 wins since Frank Viola (20-12) and Dwight Gooden (19-7) accomplished that feat in 1990.

This is pretty fascinating, because I have to think Dickey’s agent is loving every second of this. I mean, if this works for the team, and even a handfull of extra fans come out to see RA pitch down the stretch, Dickey’s camp will have actual evidence, real numbers to show what he brings to the team in terms of attendance. There is what Dickey does for the team on field, there is his presence in the clubhouse, dealing with reporters, his personality, persona, etc., all of which will be valued when negotiating a contract extension with Sandy Alderson this winter. But, here is a direct dollar figure (or at least the basis of something) that can show his value per start, which is rather unique.
